Hi

I am just about to buy the bits for a new rig and just thought i would ask what you thought and if you can see any where i can improve. The only limitation is that it needs to run on a 500w psu.

asus Z97I-PLUS mb
Intel Core i5 4690 cpu
gtx 970 gpu
Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB ssd
Corsair Vengeance Pro Silver 8GB ram

there wont be any case fans. the gpu will be driving 2 24" monitors. price wise i have wiggle room. the reason i went mini atx was just cos i showed up on a few media pc's.

thanks in advance

Do not buy a brand new 970, infact avoid the 970 and get a 980ti or 1060/70.

also, i'd strongly recommend case fans unless you like a noisy gpu

Post the budget and this lot will spec you something nice for the money! Seems like everyone is in agreement on the older components, newer doesnt mean vastly more money for example a 1060 is a much better buy than the 970.

thanks for all the great responses.

let me explain the rig a bit more. the pc is being built in the back of a van. the only limitation is the 500w psu as this is also 12v. i have voltage regulators for everything else. when i put the list together i was looking at home media pcs for inspiration for a high powered rig but low power, if that makes sense. there will be no case per say but an enclosure with fans on a different loop so no draw on the psu. the ssd is small cos its only going to be for the os. other hhd's again on a different loop. the mini-ITX was because after the gpu there will be no need for more pci and i thought it may draw less. as for last generation parts, it is cos the hmpc guides i was looking through were not up to date. budget is about £800, could go at bit higher if needed. but was worried about putting to much through the psu.
