Tomorrow I am going to be standing next to Big Ben when it tolls at midday - and I'm so excited I could scream. It not something you get to do every day, especially as we will also be taken on a guided tour around the Houses of Commons and Lords too.

I know that you're not supposed to take photos, but I will try to get some. Can't promise that I'll be able to smuggle a loaf in though.

Okay I'll be there... bring the money!

Yup, we'll be standing right next to the bell at 12 noon, with our 12 year old son.

You must go absolutely mental when something exciting actually happens.

Is the tour guide going to show you his giant bell?

That is actually quite cool. I got to go up a bellfry in the city on one of those Open House weekends and it's quite a cool place. The clock mechanism in Big Ben's clocktower is quite cool apparently and they regulate it by adding pennies to the pendulum to slow it down, speed it up etc.

If you haven't realised by now, Big Ben actually refers to one of the bells in the tower which I believe is actually called St Stephen's Tower. It is quite a cool and historic building so have fun!
