hello i have an asus m3a mobo, 4gb corsair extreme memory, amd 5000+ BE cpu, coolermaster hyper 12 hsf. i have got from 2.6ghz to 3.0ghz by increasing the multiplier to 15 this saw me to 2.9ghz but i had to up the vcore from 1.325 to 1.375 to get the 3.0ghz i cant get the 3.2 that i was aiming for. i have tried upping the vcore further but not even goin to 1.5 will see me stable on prime95. i have also tried raising the fsb from 200 to 210 but i git the dreaded blue screen so no joy! any ideas?? or do you think this is all i can achieve on my current setup?? :(

Generally with a BE cpu just upping the multi and voltage do the job, obviously yours isn't willing to play ball. Give it a quick blast through on 1.55v (the max recommended for the chip) and see if it's happy with that; although you may not want to run it 24/7 on it, it won't do any damage on a single prime run to check stability.

When you upped the HT link to 210, did you raise the memory, northbridge and core voltages too, or did you leave them as they were at 15x200?

hi. i am very new to overclocking and what i have done so far is acording to things ive lernt from toms hardware and speaking to other forum members. im guessing i can see the recommended voltage on the ram sticks themselves but how do i know about the north bridge?

Looking at what it's at now is normally a good indicator. You aren't really aiming for a number, just increasing it a couple of notches to see if it helps stability.

Overclocking isn't an exact science, it's just about tweaking a number here and there to see what makes a difference. Generally if upping the nb voltage by about 0.1v doesn't help (and you're only just above your last stable clock) it's not the problem.

hi i only tried raising the fsb i dint raise anything else. would putting the volts up to 1.55 really be worth the extra gain? especially if i only get the 100mhz out of it and i do use my pc quite often so id prob just stick with the 3.0ghz im just really dissapointed with it!

I wasn't suggesting necessarily leaving it at 1.55v, more a case of seeing if you are at the cpu voltage limit.

DONT RAISE THE NB 0.1V AT ONCE! Do it one notch at a time.

As yoda would say, patience! Don't just bung everything up as high as you can and see if it works, raise things a notch at a time until you find a combination that works.

Once you've raised everything once notch by themself, try combining two things. Once you've combined everything one notch, try 3 things at once. Once you've done that, try everything one notch.

Then repeat with raising everything one notch and some things 2 notches etc... once you find a combination that works, slowly work on lowering everything again until you lose the stability to find the lowest it will work on.

Overclocking is a time-consuming task if you want to do it properly, but it's the only way to really do it. You might be lucky, slap some numbers in and it will work fine - but you have a lot lower risk of frying anything and will get better results with patience.

im a little confused i just went into bios to have another look round but there is no option to raise the voltage of the NB you can adjust freq but not voltage?? the SB will adjust pretty much everything!
