Hi OcUK! I'm new to these forums and was adviced to seek help here regarding an upgrade.

My current system is;

Asus P5N32-EP
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.40ghz Q66000
4GB Corsair (i forget the speed)
Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce 560Ti Oc

What i'm looking for is a significant upgrade for gaming, While i believe my 560Ti is being bottlenecked by my old cpu/ram.

From looking at whats available, The bundle ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-082-OE ) here seems to be impressive but i'm unsure as wether i'm right in thinking so.

So i'm here asking wether anyone tech savvy could advise me on if this is worth getting, or is their a better option? Thank you to all who reply and have read this post.

I personally would go for an i5 2500K. The i7 is a good processor, but will be a bit wasted if you inend to upgrade just for gaming.

The i5 fits your bill nicely, overclocks really well and is a lot cheaper.

I've never had much luck doing it myself, dont have a clue about the proper settings, especially voltages etc. Those bundles just seemed a nice way to get some good overclocking done by someone who has a clue :p

So for gaming the i7 offers little improvement? I play both cpu and gpu intensive games (world of warcraft is mostly cpu, latest games skyrim etc for gpu)

oc the cpu to 3.6ghz, that should reduce the bottleneck and last you another several months.

but if you must updrade better off getting the mb/cp/ram/cooler seperately and oc your self, not too difficult with the sandybridge ask in the overclocking section. whats your current psu make/model and are the hard disk/s and optical drive/s sata(no ide in new mb)? if its mainly gaming i2600k not worth the extra over the i2500k

cpu http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-360-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1275

but if you must have i2600k http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-358-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1859

mb planning on sli?

no sli http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-364-GI

sli option http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-191-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990 £104 after cashback, pci-e 3.0 support(needs ivy bridge cpu also as sandybridge doesn't have pci-e 3.0 conroller, so ivybridge+new gpu without changing the motherboard)

ram http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-290-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

cooler http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

msi cashback offer details http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18338613

edit: damit replies as I was typing, but as I said overclocking the sandybridge is easy(much more so than the q660 etc).

Thank for you those suggestions! Were you asking me to overclocking my current cpu to 3.6? If so i've got no idea how thats done. I've tried the bios overclocking feature its self and i know i cant use any decent speeds. Due to ram? If i remember right the psu is 880w hyper thing, been afew years since i've bought the stuff to remember. I did originally have SLI with two 9800GTX's.

Is their a way to dump system information to text file, Sisandra Lite doesnt seem to let me, it may provide you with a better idea on my hardware.

oh and if you seperates you can even fit the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-005-AN&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395 into the budget and still be less than the bundle linked to even going i2600k

prob not worth it but you could even get the i2700k and still be cheaper than the bundle(well will be slightly over if you go the antec kuhler route rather than the gelid tranquilo)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-397-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1859 before anyone mentions oem here these are ment to be the 'good batch' of the 500 units ocuk got.

edit: you replied while I was typing

if it is a hiper(exploxive) psu then sctratch the i2700k and antech kuhler idea, YOU NEED A NEW PSU.

not asking if you had/didn't 'had sli, want to know if you WANT possibility of sli.

anuway back to the psu http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-057-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat= not 1 I normally suggest but its the one stulid etc suggest for budget builds

if you have the budget I'd say http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-047-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

whats your current case? and you didn't answer about the drives being sata or not(easy to tell, big 'fat' cable or thin cables going from the drive to the motherboard)

an all in 1 watercooling block looks amazing! I'm sure i could find somewhere for it to sit in my HAF939 tower as well. I only dreamed of such things when i was into modding years back.

I suggest you hit refresh and read my edit.

Nah i'm not that bothered about SLI anymore. My hdd's are all SATA2's. The case is a Coolermaster HAF939. I agree with all your statements about the i5, i wont bother wasting money on the i7 if its not worth it, i just presumed it would be the 'best' for gaming.

and yet you missed the most important part of the edit, you need to the current psu. if no plans for sli you could go for the 650w or even leave it as such incase you change your mind in the future.

is the psu no good or something? i

Alright so far i have jotted down;

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX750M High Performance 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020003-UK)
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
Antec Kúhler H2O 620 CPU Watercooler (Socket Intel LGA 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AMD AM2 / AM3 / AM2+ / AM3+)

Hopefully thats what you guys are trying to suggest, if not i really need to learn to read.

if going kuhler 620 can save a few quid on the ram by going http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-060-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 the waterblock/pump doesn't overhang any ram slot so no issues with ram selection

or a bit more expensive if red isn't your colour http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-299-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

looking at the imageshack pics, enough hard disks? ;)

budget for a ssd? :)

Made the change to the cheaper ram, thank you.

As for SSD's, I dont know enough to really want to get them. I understand their well faster but for the size i dont see it being worthwhile. I guess (if it works) i could have the os on the ssd and just run games i tend to always keep installed on the SATA's. But would that even be worth the money?
