getting loads of returns for emails I haven't sent and my send items is starting to look very didgy. MSE came up with nothing so can anyone recommend something that might pick up whatever it is I've picked up? Would rather not Format and reinstall, even if it doesn't take long.

Its almost certainly not you that's got it, its someone else but its sending with your email address so you get the fall out/blame.
It'll be one of your contacts or someone you've had cause to email and that's how their system will know of your email address.
If you had this type of virus, you'd be sending out with someone elses email address and they would be getting the bounce backs.
