Sega secure rights to Dreamcast name

I'd love it. Can't see that they'd have the multitude of billions required to develop and launch a new console, though.

Although I'd be happy enough with a re-release of the DC itself..

they turned over more than $500million last year, if they wanted too they could get back into the market.
Would be nice to see them back but i dont think they will, developing games for other consoles is a safer investment than trying to build and develop/launch their own console again which carries massive risks.

If only Sega brought another console! The Dreamcast was awesome, although I think it was overshadowed by the Playstation somewhat.

It's a trademark reapplication so they can retain control over the Dreamcast name. Happens all the time in business. Nothing to see here.

Loved my Dreamcast to bits, I remember even thinking about going over the west end to pick up 1 on opening night. Settled for picking it up the next day since I was as lazy back then as I am now :p

Ahhh the days when it was sega/nintendo at war. those were the days. when the next console was double the power of the current build (aw remember the move from 16mb to 32mb! oooooOOOoooo!) I dont know why but changing over from an xbox to a 360 - I kinda feel cheated. doesnt really feel "next gen" where as back then you was like "WOW I CAN TURN CHAR 360 DEGREES OMGZ!" I mean there is a lot of technology (both software and hardware) microsoft and playstation could use but didnt. I mean there's playstation which isnt truely bluetooth compatible (the games creators such as guitar heroes have to provide dongles all the time) and then there's xbox 360 who provide hd dvd playback.... oh wait I gotta buy a £200 seperate piece to do that? why dont I just buy this?

and then there's the whole pricing that goes with it. I mean damn. I just think nintendo's experience in the games console industry has made them such a better company. they may not provide as much technology as the other 2 but they have been forced out by 2 large companies. before the wii I honestly thought they didnt have much more bang.

I think sega should aim to compete with nintendo instead of trying to be all "entertainment centre extravaganza!" like the 360 and ps3 claim but can only dream of being.

/rant off

I dont really see any benefit to having sega releasing another console, sega was all about the sega games, that was the main draw to owning one, now they are a multi platform developer you still get the games, but without the addition of a 4th console to sit around your tv.

Sega games used to be great, but when was truly the last great sega game?

Its rose tinted specs that you lot are looking through, im looking forward to nights 2, but apart from that, since arcades arent what they were (when was the last time anyone went in one?) the arcade conversions simply dont have the appeal they used to.

Sega don't seem to take the same care as they did when they were making exclusively for their own console.

They made some truely groundbreaking and innovative titles back in the day.

Would the release of a new console mean producing higher quality games for a dedicated machine? Who knows..

There isn't room in the market for another console. What would they market it as? take on the Wii with low cost family games? make another all singing and dancing media console and take on the other two? what niche is left for them? Like Metalface says the draw of the arcade isn't that great any more so that angles useless as well.

I don't see this happening ever, Sega died along time ago.
