Looking at building my own PC again but I've been out of this area for a good few years so a little overwhelmed with where to go.

It will be a gaming rig but I already have the peripherals (monitor, KB, mouse, speakers etc) so it's only the PC itself I am needing.

Looking to push the button around Nov/Dec so not sure if anything is coming out between now and then worth considering?

Budget of £1800-£2000.

Anyone able to help?

Will be a speculative spec, because there could be quite a few changes by nov/dec, like raptor lake refresh.

What resolution is your monitor?

Come back around Oct time and ask again. Like Tetras says Raptorlake is due out sometime this year so it may be worth considering. GPU prices are currently dropping due to poor sales so the pricing before xmas could be very different, is also hard to predict availabilty that far in the future.

Other changes coming up are PCIsig are changing the spec of the 12VHPWR connector for 4000 series gpus so it may be best to wait and see if any new or adaptable psu are available and/or if Nv change/update the current cards to meet the new connector. This issue is a real mess for all concerned so if you can wait do so.

I honestly have no idea but I got it in 2015.

It's this model though (from old emails) - Samsung S27D850T 27" WQHD LED DVI HDMI Monitor

Edit: I'll leave it till Oct as suggested :)

2540x1440 60hz 5ms PLS. It does the job no doubt but monitors have come a long way in the past 8 years. If you like the monitor then no harm keeping using it and any PC you get will be able to work with a newer monitor if you were to upgrade.

What res monitor and is ray tracing important to you?

A quick lower-end of budget build for 1440p:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,811.87 (includes delivery: £11.98)

GPU: With your budget, you can definitely fit up to a 7900 XTX or RTX 4080, but a 7900 XT or 4070 Ti are fine for 1440p.
CPU: for gaming only, 7800X3D is the best option right now, but we'll see what Raptor Lake refresh is like (due in Oct).

Appreciated guys... I wasn't aware there was new stuff out in Oct.

I'll come back in Oct/Nov but I appreciate the help as I am well out of touch with this stuff :o

So I am looking to push on with this in the next 2-3 weeks (pay day bonus due at end of month).

Could I be a pain and ask again for some advice (even if just to confirm the baskets already posted are still the best options :)). Again, I would spend circa £2000 but dont include a case (I will choose one) or peripherals as I have these already so just the internals.

Much obliged chaps and chapesses :)

Your monitor is only 60 Hz so do you need that replaced within the budget? Are you going for an air cooler or AIO?

Going to keep the monitor for now but I'd like the GPU to be able to cope with a better one for when I change it.

Probably go for an AIO cooler. I plan on getting a case that will mount it easily. Something like the Hyte Y60 (red or black I dont know yet) or the Asus GR701

How much are you expecting the case and AIO to eat into the budget?

This is an upper-end of the budget AMD option:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,726.88 (includes delivery: £7.99)

A lower-end of the budget Intel option:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,436.89 (includes delivery: £7.99)

I'm thinking around £400 between case and cooler tops. I'd put an absolute ceiling of £2,400 including it all so £2,000 for the other components.

It doesn't need to be right at the limit but I'd rather go the extra if it meant better quality components as I'd like it to last 2-3 years before looking at upgrading any of the components again.

In that case, I change my AMD build to:

Total: £1,999.94 (includes delivery: £0.00)

and my Intel build to:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,000.89 (includes delivery: £7.99)

If going for 7900XTX I would stump up the extra for a Nitro card.

Outstanding... Much appreciated @Tetras... Now I just need to figure out if I go AMD or Intel

You sure you couldn't squeeze that extra 6p on the AMD one?

Cheers, I'll have a look at the Nitro model as well

:D a pity, huh?

For clarification about the main changes:
- The motherboard has PCI-E 5.0 graphics, which the B650-Plus doesn't (it does have a PCI-E 5.0 M.2 though). Personally, I wouldn't pay £100 if that's the only benefit in the Strix that's significant for you.
- The ram speed doesn't make a big difference with an X3D, see here, but £20 isn't much for the overall build with a £2000 budget.
- That PSU has 3x ports you can use for independent cables with the XTX. You don't 'need' to do it, but it is recommended and a lot of PCIE5 PSUs don't have enough ports for doing this.

Do you do anything other than gaming?

Yeah, I am not sure if it's worth going PCI 5....would going for the B650 produce any bottleneck with the XTX range?

All sounds spot on.

Do you do anything other than gaming?

Nope, this will just be a gaming rig so I'm guessing AMD is the preferred option?

Yeah, I am not sure if it's worth going PCI 5....
With the TUF plus priced this low, Asus have made their higher-end boards a hard sell.

would going for the B650 produce any bottleneck with the XTX range?
Nah, the XTX is PCI-E 4.0 and it is really only 4 lane cards that you should definitely avoid using in a board that has an older PCI-E gen, if you can help it. 16 lane cards generally only lose a few percent, at most.

so I'm guessing AMD is the preferred option?
Yup!
