Self build shutting down after 3-5 mins

Hi, I built my pc a few years ago, and ever since building, the pc turns on, I log in, and after about 5 mins it restarts itself, going to a black screen that essentially says press alt + l to go back to the last good configuration.

To bypass this I've always had to press delete to go to the bios on startup, hit F10 to restart and it boots up fine and I can go about my business. Works perfectly in every way.

I've had enough of having to press delete all the time (probably in my old age) and am just wondering has anyone come across this before?

I've a MSI pcmate z97 and an overclocked i5 4690k, with an nvidia 750ti GPU. It did the same thing on my old processor (intel g3258). So strange as like I say it works perfectly when I boot from the bios....

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Is the memory overclocked/XMP enabled? If it is, try removing it and setting to default 1600MHz, save and exit.

I'd say remove the CPU overclock too, to troubleshoot, but since you say no issues other than that, just try memory first.

Could try updating the BIOS as well (you'll have to re-enter the overclock settings after).

What's the spec (PSU age brand too)?

Juts noticed @Danny75 posted - try all the above solid advice and saved me some typing.

Also, make sure all your drivers are up to date and that you don't have any conflicts in device manager on the initial boot which then miraculously resolve themselves when it reboots - check.
