Starting to pull my hair out on this one,

Clients server self cert was due to expire at the weekend, I ran the wizard and it's now extended to 2017 however I've now got an issue with remote clients outlook not syncing with the following error:

The security certificate is not valid & There is a problem with the proxy servers security cert.

I've installed the cert and it imports ok but still have the above error.

Been searching through google but not having much luck. Any advice?

Do you mean you've renewed the cert? I didn't think you could extend an existing trusted root cert. If so, then it's an entirely different cert to the previous one.

As you mentioned external clients, I'm assuming they're off of the domain? If that's the case, you'll need to get the folk who have those devices to manually update the cert.

A further assumption is that you're using group policy to push out the cert to your domain clients, which is why they're fine.

Many assumptions: Need more info :)

[edit]Did you mean a self-signed certificate, or a certificate issued by an internal CA? If it's the former, then the above doesn't count.[/edit]

what version of exchange are you using?
if its 2013 you need to tell it what site to change the cert on from ecw maybe IIS on the older versions

It's Exchange on SBS 2008, It's a self issued cert on that box.

The remote users have laptops that are connected to the domain. If i connect to the VPN then try outlook it'll still warn about the cert but their mailboxes will update.

This isn't my usual field so apologies if I'm not making much sense.

Got it to work by manually installing the cert to both trusted publisher and root on the test PC.

Will now roll it out to the others, thanks for your help.
