A rush hour commute is not really "driving". I'd quite happily buy something totally mundane, economical & eco-friendly for a door to door auto drive commute. Choice then of either having a quick nap, relaxing with something on the in car TV, or getting some work done on a laptop / gettng caught up with e-mails etc.
Anything that improves productivity / enables a better work/life balance is all good in my book...
Given the prospect of improving congestion, increasing fuel economy & reducing emissions by improving the general standard of driving, I can see this taking off in a major way. Government subsidies, the works.
Transport needs to be revolutionised like the internet re-invented communications...
What about if it stops suddenly as a result of hitting something solid or an oncoming vehicle? Given all the cars are ~6m apart none of them will have sufficient stopping room.
