Just curious, where do you think it stems from?

Seems it's an increasing phenomenon in this day of age.

And being curious, id like to hear your views on it. :)

The false ideas of equality promoted where everyone deserves the same, regardless of starting position or how much effort is put in.

It's going to take a long time to undo the damage inflicted on our society in the last 15 years or so with such attitudes.

Who has promoted the idea that equality is defined in terms of outcome? I have only heard serious arguments in favour of equality being based upon the importance of an equal starting position, regardless of the lives of the individual's parents. It is on the basis of the equality of the beginning, that the inequality of the finish is legitimised.

Also, equality is not sameness.

As a country does more and more for its inhabitants (benefits etc) coupled with a decreasing amount of personal responsibility i.e. someone else is always to blame for something.... I don't think this helps.

Being told that you can "have it all" but failing to state that you need to work hard for it makes certain people believe this very thing....

The previous administration promote equality of outcome in education (hence lowering standards to increase pass rates and our plummeting down the international league tables) for one. The idea of Tax credits, housing benefit changes and so on also promotes a large amount of equality of outcome rather than equality of opportunity when they start to aim to raise all families in a large bracket to a similar level (as seen with the huge spread of those eligible for tax credits).

In reality all that is bull honky though, isn't it?

I think this self-entitlement manifests itself as chavs saying 'you can't touch me bruv, you can't do nuffin'

and the most overused phrase in America 'I know my rights!'

Are we referring to the jobless, the hard working poor or the hard working rich?

Images from the lifestyles of the rich and famous are everywhere in daily life and I suppose it's probably only natural a certain proportion of the populus desire such a life.

Perhaps a lot of people, the hard working poor, would be happier with a fairer deal instead of subsidising the lifestyles of the super rich and earning a pittance as reward.
