Hi guys

I play all my games on 4k res. And using a single gtx titan i tend to play at medium settings.

I need advice. If i sell the titan and get the gtx 980 will i get better gaming performance on 4k.

The gtx 980 has 2048 whereas the titan has around 2600 .i dont if this plays a big part.

Thanks guys please help.

It will be faster but very marginally , however having 6gb vram may make the Titan a better card for longevity . Personally if I was needing oomph to play at 4K , you'd be better hunting for a second hand Titan . And using sli .

A second hand titan will set me back around 500 quids .ok how does twin gtx 970 sound after all its all new technology etc.

A single 970 won't be any faster at 4k and will most likely be slower in certain tasks . 2 970s will be fine but will still cost as much as and be slower than adding an extra Titan , no doubt temps and power consumption will be a lot lower with a 970 tho . Unless you shift ur Titan and use that to cover the costs which it still should do

Check HERE to see the relative performance difference between a Titan and a GTX 980 @ 4K (first chart)

You should see a gain of between 15% to 20%.

If you want anymore than that, SLi is your only option.

If you check HERE GTX 970s in SLi are very close in performance to a Titan Z (equivalent to 2 Titans in SLi) @ 4K.

While a 2nd Titan will cost you an extra £500. 2x GTX 970s can be bought for £540-600, allowing you to sell your Titan. Therefore GTX 970 SLi is looking like your best option if one GTX 980 isn't enough power.

Thank you so much for your help i now know what i must do. Sell my titan and get 2x 970 which is my best option coz remember i have the standard titan not the titan z which 5000 cuda cores approx.

I heard the more core the better for higher res.

The problem with the 970 or 980 is the vram amount. You currently have a card that doesn't struggle with hitting the vram limit but you don't have the horse power to run games with maximum settings, so vram isn't an issue. If you got a pair of 970s/980s, you would have the horse power to run games at max settings but not the vram.

If I was in your shoes, I would try and source another Titan or even another 2 and that will see you well for a couple of years.

As above, if you've already got a titan, get a second rather than going SLI 970s! Vram will become more of a problem as games progress and titans will only get cheaper once titan 2s come out :D

Really this is imo the best way forward in your situation

ok guys il hang on to my titan and try to get another titan in the future and sli it.Thanks

one small question I have a superclocked titan ,can I get a standard titan and sli it?

I have been looking at second hand GTX Titan Black on the bay and they are going between £360 - £520 ! Now even if they manage to sell at max £520 when they pay off all their fees its they get £300 - £450ish for their Titan Blacks.

Plus it can be a minefield selling and buying on ebay ! few occasions I have to use the resoultion centre and you do get your money back but you have to wait a certain etc etc.
