I'm considering buying one of these.

I have a good spare 19inch CRT, and a normal 32inch wide TV. What are my best display options?

Tell me about the media streaming? What formats are supported?

Any other thoughts?

I would recommending using your TV for displaying, I have a 20" monitor and a 21" SD tv in my room yet a I prefer playing on my TV. If you have media centre it can be configured to play DivX videos and the like, I don't know too much about that area.

I would definitely recommend playing on a monitor, I have played on 32" widescreen SD, 32" widescreen HD, 17" TFT, 19" TFT and a 24" Widescreen TFT monitor and the SD is definitely the worst there.

It's definitely worthwhile playing on the monitor via VGA, you will get HD resolutions too, something you can't get on your SDTV.

If you want to play games, there is not better current gen console around.

get the extended warranty, better to be safe than sorry and it will save you hassle in the long run, wish I had and I will with my elite purchase.

32"SD over a 19" monitor, easily.

I had my 360 hooked up to a decent Tosh 32" CRT (though RGB SCART) for about a year and it was definately preferrable to my 19" monitor through a VGA connection.

Meant I could chillax on the sofa while playing rather than sitting a metre away from the screen in an office chair.

xbox 360 core, 3 games + wireless pad.

£299

You can get a premium with 4 games and two wireless pads for that.

I'd say stick to SD until you can afford a HDTV, 19" just isn't enough. I have mine running through a non-wide 20" CRT and I'm happy enough :D

he wanted me to sell it! :D

I disagree. Definitely use your monitor. HD resolution is a helluva lot clearer than SD. I've played on 32" SDTV, 32" HDTV, 24" monitor and 17" monitor. The SDTV was the worst of the lot - everything looks fuzzy. When you use a HD capable display it's like having glasses when you were previously short-sighted. Everything becomes crisp.

For media capabilities, you can connect it to your computer using Windows Media Player 11 or Windows Media Center. You can view almost any filetype using WMC as there is a utility called Transcode360 that will convert files to the Xbox's WMV format. You can also put in CD-R / DVD-R / USB2 HDD with WMV or MP4 files to watch directly on the console.

I've played Gears on a 28" CRT via RGB scart, and while it didn't look bad, it was still worse looking than on a 20" widescreen TFT (Dell 2007WFP). Of course with a 20" TFT you need to sit closer.

Of couse the OP doesn't have a 2007WFP but a 19" CRT which isn't widescreen, but I would still rather use it since it will do HD.

A nice HDTV beats both though and they're so cheap now, a 32" samsung for under £500, or budget 32" for £375.

cheers lads :)

Well a HDTV is utterly out of the question. I'm not spending £300 on a TV just to play games :p

So what would you do? Would you get a vga cable and play on a 19' CRT monitor? Or would you get an Advanced scart cable and play on a 32' standard TV?

Or should I 'borrow' my 19' non-wide TFT off my PC? :p

Work out where you want to play 360 games. From the comfort of your sofa or I'm guessing your desk.

I played for 9 months on a 32" RGB TV and it really wasn't that bad.
