Just reading Orifices thread on how he jumped to a mac and got me thinking what really makes people move towards one ?

Yes they look good but I dont know much about them really other than the OS is 'nix based.

What are the pros / cons of owning one ?

Sorry I dont venture in here at all and admittedly didnt use the search - my bad.

I'm a perfect test case (possibly)

I jumped the PC ship after literally years last week.

Finding the change aggravating at times, but palatable.

Obvious statement - much of the problem surrounds compatibility, esp. Microsoft systems.

my 2nd week on my new mbp now.. i havent touched my windows based pc since my mbp arrived. i also wouldnt be dual booting vista since now i find windows to be junk! my pc is just sitting on one corner. havent been powered up since. literally.

I brought a macbook to test websites on 2 years ago almost.

I booted the macbook, spent an hour configuring it and playing.

turned it off for the night. the next morning, I had the urge to boot it up first before my pc or other laptop. had a few more days where I looked for excuses to use it more and more. I couldn't understand why I was desperate to use it, but then I realised it was because it made computing fun again. No longer did I have to grimace and babysit a vulnerable system, no longer did I have to wrestle with multiple applications that all looked and behave differently. The mac fit in with the way I worked, and the way I wanted to work. Programs like textmate, cssedit, transmit, iphoto, mail and others were a pleasure to use. My laptop finally behaved how it should when I closed the lid! It felt sturdy.

After about six months of using the macbook, I moved across to Australia and travelled whilst working freelance, using my mac as my primay source of income. SOmething I don't think I could have trusted to a windows laptop.

So anyway, now I own 3 macs, an iphone and am in the market for another!
