Hi there,

I am looking for an advice on deciding what should I do. It's been a while since I've built my PC (around 4 years now) and it has been through a lot of upgrades and modifications. I am getting to a point when I am wondering whether I should upgrade it more or sell it and buy a whole new system. Tell me what you think, here is the spec:

- Antec 300 (modded)
- Corsair 620W HX Modular PSU
- Asus P5Q Deluxe
- Q9550 2.83GHz
- Corsair XMS2 2x2GB
- XFX 8800 GT Alpha Dog @ XXX with Thermalright HR-03
- WD AALS 640 GB
- 2x500 GB Samsung HD502IJ

Pic in the sig. Thanks.

Your system is still fairly good, have you thought about overclocking your current cpu.

What screen res do you play at, you could invest in a newer gpu is my only thoughts.

haha:p.

I can't believe some people ran their quad chips for years and never overclocked them:(.

It's a mortal sin leaving those quads at stock:p.

Before, I was runing dual screen setup, so I was playing at 1280x1024, now with the new monitor it's 1080p resolution and my good old 8800gt still gives me fairly good frames per second, however it could use an extra kick.

As for overclocking I go by the rule, "respect your cpu and it will gives you years of trouble free service". I tried it once, but didn't see much difference between standard clock and 3.5Ghz, maybe because my gpu is a bottleneck.

So you guys reckon all I should do is get new GPU? What GPU would be a good upgrade from 8800GT?? I am a bit behind when it comes to new stuff, should I go for ATI or nvidia? My budget is £150-£200.

Get a better graphics card and overclock that cpu. My Q9550 did 4.13Ghz in a P5Q Pro Turbo and it's a really noticeable differance over stock speed. Loads of good info in here.

Thanks for the links RJC. I quite like GTX 560Ti OC.

I just thought something though. I remember reading about dedicated physics card and from what I remember I could use my 8800GT as a physics card and then use another gpu as a primary card (such as GTX 560Ti), would that be worth trying? has anyone tried simillar thing before?

I think its possible to do that, you could try.

Yes you can do that, hopefully the PSU should be upto the job, the 560 is a good card anyway, I would try it without and see how you get on.

From what I've heard the performance increase from having an older dedicated physX card like the 8800GT against just using 1 fast card like the GTX 560 isn't worth it, in some games it actually slows it down!

I've read few comments about that too. Also I think I wouldnt have a space for 8800gt in my case if i would have another graphic card, because HR-03 takes a lot of space (3 slots)

Last question guys. If you would have to choose between Gigabyte 560 TI and XFX 6950 Dual Fan which one would you choose and why??

Overclockers don't have Dual Fan version of the XFX 6950 available, but it can be found on other websites. Thanks

Done, sorry guys, I really shouldn't do it. It's just difficult to write about something that isn't available here.

So what would be better XFX HD 6950 XXX Dual Fan or Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti OC 1GB? and why?

Sorry again and thanks for pointing out my mistake.
