Sell PS5 preorder to buy Zen 3

I bought a PS5 but have also been waiting for Zen 3 and considering a 5900X.

The main (only) game i’m currently playing is COD MW using a 2080Ti, 3440x1440 and 100hz gsync screen. It would be nice to hit 90fps constant in Warzone like in Downtown area but is that worth a £1200 upgrade?

I’ll get my £450 preorder cost back easily and then need to spend £700 on cpu cooler, motherboard, ram, case and ssd for OS. With this big upgrade I feel like a new slightly larger case and fresh ssd for os would also be worthwhile.
PS5 i would also need to spend money on games at maybe £60 or £70 a pop

I suppose i could sell the PS5 then wait a bit to see how benchmarks hold up. I also don’t mind 2nd hand so maybe somethink lesser would suffice

At the resolution you game at you would probably not even notice the difference.

1080P and productivity is where the gains will be.
Not notice the difference between a Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 9 5900X?
I take it a motherboard like the MSI meg x570 unify supports the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 9 chips. If so i could get the cheaper ryzen 5 3600 cpu to save ~£350. Then at a later dare upgrade to the 5900X if i need too

You would probably see like a 5% improvement @ 3440x1440.

Which CPU do you have now?

Even in areas if built up geometery where fps dips to 50s despite lowering all graphics settings and resolution?
My aim is to get cod mw at 90fps+ all the time.
Current CPU is an i7 4790k @4.5ghz. Had the same CPU for around 7 years

You need to sell a kidney to buy zen3 by the trend of some on this forum. :D.

a mere £500 PS5 ain’t gonna cut it to offset the zen3 as it is the biggest ripoff of the century!
Everyone was sucking the balls off Zen 3, then just because there was a £200 markup everyone changes their mind :D
I kniw it wont but i was planning on getting both. The £500 offset will fund the markup, a new case and slightly better than planned motherboard which should hopefully mean no need for a DAC / dedicated soundcard

I would knock down a few settings until you get your 90 FPS, and then see if you feel like spending £1209 to turn the settings back up.

Free to try, could save you a packet?
Tried, similar fps. In built up areas like Downtown on modern warfare the fps tanks down to 50s. Be it with all settings on high or all on low. This to me shows a CPU bottleneck.
Same in coaster planet. Big parks it doesnt matter the settings or resolution, fps still takes a hammering no matter how pretty it is. Look away from sll the action, then sure. No problem

So if i get something like an msi meg x570 unify motherboard for £250, will this support a 3700X, 3900X, 5900X, 5950X?

The unify appears to be what im after - has reasonable onboard sound (Realtek acl2200) so no DAC / internal soundcard required, has multiple NVMe slots and Wifi.

I then need RAM (£220) and a new case (~£100 or are cases more?)

I then drop in a 3700 / 3900 and can get a 5900 / 5950 at a later date along with a cooler or just use the generic one that comes with the 3700X / 3900X

CPU - Ryzen 9 5950X - £750
CPU - Ryzen 9 5900X - £530
CPU - Ryzen 7 3700X - £220 (2nd hand)
CPU - Ryzen 9 3900X - £350 (2nd hand)

CPU HSF / other hybrid cooler for 5950X / 5900X - £100

You could get a new 3700x with the meg unify if you use the cashback promotion from msi, they have to be purchased together in one transaction from participating retailers.

https://uk.msi.com/Promotion/back-to-school-2020#AMD-Motherboard

The x570 tomahawk is a cheaper option.
Thanks. So £63 cashback with the Unify and 3900X.
It says its a ‘prize’ is that actual money back into bank account or some dodgy prize like £63 to spend on msi items when spending over £3000 :D

Going 2nd hand is still cheaper but guess this option is there too :)

Check the small print, the cashback offer from msi is actually steam vouchers if you read it.
Back to the OP question what cpu do you have now ?
I noticed that too about steam vouchers. Offer seems sketchy and rubbish anyway for the sake of £50.
I currently have a i7 [email protected], 16Gb RAM, 2080Ti

Edit, wanting to keep CoD MW above 90fps in downtown area and all others @ 3440x1440, all highest settings

Is Cod using the same engine as Warzone ?
I dont know how comparable it is but I am mostly sat at around 100 fps if I render the game at 4k (in game scaling), at my smaller monitor's native of 2560x1440 its around 140, that's with all eye candy maxed and what little RTX effects there are on.
I do have a little higher clockspeed (4.7) and 2 cores more but 2 threads less, no idea if that matters in Cod.

What framerate are you getting now ?
I would have thought the cpu wouldn't be holding you back that much at that res, but unsure as some games do utilize more cores to better effect.
COD is fine 90fps+ most if the time. Just a few parts where it drops like on the Picadilly map near the busses.
Warzone some areas like Downtown drop to 50fps, if i turn diwn all graphics and resolution it doesnt help fps much / at all. It appears to be just the amount if buildings causing the fps hit

Way over priced that stuff. Do you need 32gb ? If your just gaming they you don't need 32gb
Future proof. Not now but would prefer to get 1 32gb stick as the board supports 32x4.
Spending £1000+ i want this to last ~6-8 years as my current bundle has. The bundle i have now cost me £350 and has held out well.
In 3 or 4 years 32GB RAM might be one the norm

Looking at that route, unless you are doing a lot of rendering and productivity tasks, IMO no point in more than 8 cores needed for gaming.
so if you want new gen a 5800x £429 or if looking to save by using current gen 3700x £290
Msi Tomahawk X570 board will support all you above listed cpus @ £210
Ram 16gb of 8 pack 3600 can be had for £128
Cooler to suit case AIO for around £130
A decent case for £100 - £150 maybe less depending on what you want.

Or you could wait for a nice mobo/cpu bundle to land in MM ;)
Thanks

Unify isnt much more than £210. The Realtek ACL1200 on the Tomahawk vs ACL1220 on the Unify. Im looking at best onboard audio possible so i dont end up having to spend £200 on an external DAC / soundcard

If you want it to last that long I would wait a little longer. I'll bet some new motherboards will be out for zen3 or whatever intel has to offer.

Still a little over priced that ram. I would have a look around. You can get the same specs for £40/50 less on 32gb.
I’m always best waiting :D but everyone said to wait for Zen 3...then wait for Intels offering / Zen 4...then wait for...

I’d hold tight on buying memory. If Ryzen 5000 are anything like Renoir the IF will run 4000
I'm holding tight on buying anything just yet. I think i'm going to try and get a 5900X on 5th November then once that is secured look at getting motherboard, RAM and cooler.

What are the chances though that new motherboards will come out (other than X570 / B550) that support anything else like DDR5?

The other downside is that I could get a CPU but then things like motherboards, RAM and coolers run out of stock of what I would like
