Hi :)

I currently have a Dell U2711 which has been fantastic but has a couple of flaws which has me wanting to change to something else.

The two main issues I have with this screen are:

1. The screen coating
2. Cannot display a 50hz signal without processing it to 60Hz. This is a real pain as I use this screen for watching TV and the judder is very annoying.

I have been intrigued by the release of these new 2560x1080 screens, and the Dell I believe will display a 50hz signal without judder, I wonder if the LG would do the same?

I don't do any photo editing and I use my PC for watching films, TV shows, gaming and browsing.

So my question to the knowledgeable people of OcUK is, what screen should I go for given that I don't want to spend more than I can currently expect from the selling of my screen so something around £400 (I am willing to stretch to £450 tops).

Many thanks in advance :D

The Dell U2713HM would be a logical replacement i think although you do need to keep in mind you'd be moving from a wide gamut screen to a standard gamut model. The AG coating is much lighter and it's a great all-round 27" IPS screen. The Dell U2913WM also has a light AG and supports 50Hz but keep in mind the "odd" aspect ratio which might be an issue depending on the TV content you're watching

Thanks Baddass for the reply :)

If my current screen could display 50hz properly I would keep it until something drastically better was released e.g. higher resolution 4k screen perhaps.

You have raised another good point about the U2711 being a wide gamut screen. My last two screens have been wide gamut and going back to a standard sRGB panel would be a backwards step would you say? I have to say that wide gamut screens are fantastic as colours are so vibrant. The main reasons I suggested the U2913WM is because I trust Dell with there warranty and replacement procedures. If only the U2713H could display a 50hz signal properly :|

Baddass, are there any screens you are reviewing at the moment which are 27" and would suit my needs?

The U2713H will support 50Hz properly, I tested that and confirmed in the review. what makes you think it doesn't out of interest?

The wide gamut screens all tend to be expensive now as they are firmly aimed at professional users really. no others spring to mind at the moment in 27" sector i'm afraid.

It does support 50hz and display the signal without judder? That makes my decision so much easier, thanks Baddass :D.

I thought from reading around the web that the U2713H will accept a 50hz signal but the in built scaler will try to display it at 60hz (or something along those lines), just like my current U2711 does. I miss my old Dell 2408 as that would display a 50hz signal and had a very good black level.

Also, I've just spotted the LG 27EA83-D which is very similar to the Dell U2713H. Of the two, which would you say is better as they seem to both use the same panel. I've read that this LG will also run at refresh rates over 60hz via overclocking without dropping frames, hence should support 50hz as well.

I think it will be between the Dell U2713H and the LG 27EA83-D although I will need to save up for a little longer to stretch to either of these :).

It seems the U2713H behaves just like my current U2711 then, that's a shame. I think I need to decide between the LG and perhaps the U2913WM as that will display 50hz without judder.

I use my screen to watch freeview and when watching at 60hz there's judder as European tv is played back in 50hz. And don't be sorry for jumping in, I'm looking for people's opinions and recommendations :-)
