Selling a domain name?

I'm thinking of selling one of my old domain names since I no longer use it.

So my plan is to put it on ebay, and then then let my forum members bid on it.

But if/when someone buys it, how exactly do I transfer it to them, and will there be some kind of transfer fee?

(It's a .co.uk, with godaddy if that makes any difference).

As its a .co.uk you can just ask your domain controller to transfer it to xxxx (give them the details of the winning bidder - .co.uks are quick and hassle free. Its .coms/.nets and similar that relay on people accepting emails and auth codes etc). This involves them sending a quick encrypted email to request an update of the new details. Should be a very quick process.

Never used Godaddy myself, but in Namecheap (who rock!) you can just push the domain name to another Namecheap user for free as long as they create an account.

Guessing Godaddy should be the same

EDIT: Found in a domain name forum:

In the user control panel, check the domain you want to push and then click on the "change account" button located near the top of the page.

You'll have fill out the contact information for the person who will be receiving the domain and then Godaddy will contact the recipient with instructions on how to complete the account change.

With Nominet controlled domains it isn't actually quite as easy as you say.
Moving a domain from one place to another doesn't automatically change the Registrant's Name.

Nominet actually charge to have that changed - £10+vat, this is detailed in their FAQ.

You can physically move the domain without too much hassle.
For example if I had a 123-reg.co.uk account and wanted to transfer the domain to somebody with a Fasthosts account I could start the transfer process and it would all go through and without charge.
However once the domain arrived in the Fasthosts account the Registrant name will not change until you ask Nominet to make the change for you.

Don't confuse the "Contact Details" with the "Registrant Details".
One can be changed nice and easily and without charge - the other can't.

If it's worth quite a bit, something like Sedo might be worth looking into.

I doubt it's worth more than about £50 tbh! :D It's "popularjapanese popgroupnamehere.co.uk", but there are thousands of fans, so I'm hoping someone will be interested.

But anyway, what is sedo? I haven't heard of it.

Sedo is basically a domain brokerage site... they take a hefty commission but then it also puts your domain in the shop window, as it were.
