Hi, I'm just about to send a GPU sold on the bay. I've read horror stories about the buyer sending back identical broken ones and keeping your working one.

Should I take a picture of the serial number along with the box (and my ebay name?) anything else I can do to cover myself?

cheers

take picture of the serial number,if you have a uv pen then you can write your name on the cover, its only visable under uv light

Mark the gpu somewhere with a marker pen that is hard to see and take a photo with a note of your sellers name and date.

you could unscrew the heatsink/plastic cover and write your name in markerpen on the underside of the plastic cover, you might need to re-apply the thermal paste though but atleast it would be hidden ect

Recently had some bad experiences (not the website itself per se but people on it). So I recommend doing whatever possible to protect yourself and the financial transaction needs to go through official channel.

I wont use that auction place ever again for buying stuff! Bought 2x gtx 280 a while back when I was going tri sli when I installed them in my pc all I got from the seller was that it must have been how I installed them.... 1 had artifacting and the other had a faulty gpu temp sensor.

You're all literally so paranoid about "The bay" as you call it, Been using it for over 6 years 1200 feedback none negative, all of my buyers have paid and been trust worthy don't let one person's experience but you off.

Well to be honest if you're that concerned about buying Used PC parts just save some more money and just buy them new.

Take photo's/video of the packaging your sending the card in. Definitely the serial numbers and mark with UV pen.

I've been scammed twice selling graphic cards on Ebay.

there are con men around every where, and the OP is right to take precautions.
as above, mark the case and fan, maybe even the gpu mainboard.
take photos of these, lighted up, and serial number.
if possible, have buyers with a minimum of 20 positive feedback only.
pay for signed delivery.

also there is a members market here, that has some very trustworthy people trading on it, and i have always bought and sold stuff on here a lot more relaxed than on the bay.
