Selling a numberplate

Hello Motors,

I bought a car with a numberplate that I'd like to sell as I have my own.

I suppose what I'm really asking is; if I find a buyer - will I need to pay the £80 retention fee, or is there a way around it?
i.e. if it were to be assigned to the new vehicle straight away.

If you privately sell the plate you can come to whatever arrangement you wish....you could leave the plate on your car and make it a condition of the sale that they pay for a transfer.

Theres plenty sites that will value a plate at silly amounts and pay ye nowt for many many moons lol
