Hey guys,

I have been tasked in selling my Grandpa's car. The car is in excelent condition hardly any miles on it and full service history. However he has electronic hand controls as he is unable to use his legs (polio), the hand contols can be deactivated by flicking a switch but I fear this will make it harder to sell.

Does anyone know of a forum that specialise in this sort of thing? I am thinking the car will be a lot easier to sell to someone with the same needs as the conversion was very expensive it might make it an easy sale and also a saving for someone in the same position.

Any thoughts would be great :)

Out of interest what car is it?

it is not something that would necessarily turn me away from a nice car but 'Joe Not interested in cars' might run a mile.

I would have thought selling to the market where the hand controls are desired would be the most sensible option. I would have thought the controls would attract a premium rather than a penalty.

I agree Mr Jack, just no idea how to reach out to that market. Normally I would plonk it on Pistonheads and see what happens.

The car in question is a Zafira 1.9TDI desire, it's 9 years old but only has 29k miles on it which is making it hard to value (especially considering the hand controls).

My Grandpa is really upset about having to give it up but I am sure he would be over the moon to know that it's going to someone who is going to use the hand controls.

There are a few completed listings on eBay for cars with hand controls it could be worth checking them against equivalent cars without the conversion to see what sort of mark up they've out on.

I noticed a couple of them also seemed to be from specific disabled access retailers - maybe they'll buy it? (Obviously at a lower sum)

I think eBay might be a good place to start selling it actually

There are also a lot with wheelchair access conversions, if it also has this I imagine it'll be a big selling point

There are bound to be internet support forums for disabled people, perhaps you could ask on one of them?
