Merry Xmas all :) - I was thinking about building a new rig for the new year but wondered if this current machine was worth selling to help go towards the cost of a new one :o

A64 x2 3800+ (skt 939) w/Arctic Cooler 64 pro
Asus A8n-e
2gb ddr 400 RAM (4sticks)
Sapphire Radeon x800 GT pci-e
WD 80gb SATA HD
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-109
Sony DVD-ROM DDU1615
300w psu

I'm hoping to build a machine able to run multiple vmware guests, encode video, perhaps play crysis :o

Not quite sure of the specifics yet but something along the lines of quad q6600 / 4gb ram / geforce 8800gt / 1tb hd? :]

my budget will be hmm around £500-£700 :D

I wouldn't sell your old PC. You wont get much for it and you would probably find a better use for it anyway (i.e a media center/server).

i can not say how much it is worth as well, but i can help you on your new build a bit

needs a case
i cant fit 1TB of storage in the budget without compensating for quality or performance, which is something i would rather not do. it 1 TB is needed, you could get a case with a PSU, but i personally perfer a good PSU over storage space. addational hdds are easier to add, then a good PSU at a later date.

yeah i think you're right - it's not bad a machine , except for the fact it can't play anything new - it's pretty nippy in xp otherwise :)

jak - That spec is definitely a big help!, thank you very much  - would I be able to overclock that quad to 3.0ghz with those components?
