Hi there, so I'm selling the XJ600S I bought a few months back because I'm leaving the country on the 13th of October. I've had the bike up on Gumtree for a few days now and while there has been a few people interested, they all seem to be extremely picky or wanting it lower than the advertised price.

https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/xj600s-1998-44k-mileage-550-ono/1135887059

I thought that £550/500 was more than a reasonable price for it but I'm getting complaints about the mileage being too high etc.

One person who came to view it today said that there was a loose bearing in the engine and that he could hear it. I just started the bike up myself after they'd left and couldn't hear anything like he suggested but I did note that the bike stutters periodically when it's first started up and the revs are below 1k, after you give it a little throttle the noise disappears.

Is this a normal experience with potential buyers? Am I asking for too much?

Price seems cheap to me tbh,do you give it a little choke when starting? My 600 nearly always needs a touch of choke if left go cold

Gumtree buyers are always timewasters IMO,just stick with your price

Edit: 44k isn't high IMO,if anything you wanted to set the price higher so £700ono expecting offers around £600 ect

There is no need to write in your advert "Selling due to leaving the country." will be a big put off ie: no come back.

Unfortunately today's motorcyclist thinks any bike over 30 grand is high.

And they'd be right, £30,000/$30,000 is a lot of money (grand exclusively refers to monetary value in this context).

Shame you are quite so far away, I could use another simple honest bike. I would have thought it would be gone pretty quick at that price !

£500 is in buy and not feel bad about junking come next MOT territory fussy beggers!

Exactly - any bike under a grand is dirt cheap, most stuff under £1k isn't in great condition - rare to see a decent honest cheap bike. I'd hold out and ignore the timewasters. The bloke who said there's a bearing gone - obviously trying to get it for £100, and when you didn't bite he gave up.

That looks like a bloody good deal for £550. I know photos tend to flatter but it looks pretty tidy for the age and mileage.

The divvy's engine is very unstressed, plenty of dispatch bikes around with over double that mileage. Unfortunately dealing with knuckle dragging cretins seems to be part and parcel of selling cheap vehicles.

Regardless of my hate of the XJs, i would consider buying that if it were remotely near me lol.

Me too would make a perfect winter commuter so I could leave the sensitive little SV wrapped up away from the salt :D
