Hi

I am getting my single glazed sash window frames & glass replaced with double glazed units in the next few weeks. The actual surround/ bit of the window attached to the building is not being replaced, but just the frames and glass.

Will anyone buy the old frames and glass off me? Has anyone had any experience of doing this/ who did you sell to/ how much did you raise? They are in decent condition - no rot etc.

Cheers

I've no experience in this, but I doubt people would pay for that sort of thing? I have some in my places in Portsmouth, half decent nick but I'd never think of selling them if I got rid!

Presume they're old so the glass is old/fragile, the wood maybe decent but I imagine the labour of installing them into another property would be tiresome and expensive if you pay someone to do it...

If you have a wood burner, they'll burn well in that!

P.S. it's a shame to get rid of sash windows...have you looked at a company that would refurb them, new lines, weights and they can add better glass...

With anything like this just throw it on gumtree with the dimensions and pictures. If they sell then it's a bonus if not just dispose of them.

I've sold my old fireplace, doors etc. While you might not get much it may save you a trip to the dump as someone will take them away.

@SeatIbiza - this is basically what they are doing. The only thing they are removing is the glass/ frame (because the frame is too thin to fit new double glazed glass into) and they are replacing it with a double glazed sash unit. I'd never dream of getting rid of the sash altogether and just putting a pane of glass in or something!

Kimi - if you can collect from London - you can probably have it :)

We are slowly doing the exact same thing with ours they are lovely when done!

The old sashes sadly don't hold much value, you get the odd person wanting them for mirrors, accompany local to us strips them waxes them and puts mirrored glass in and plenty of people wanting them for cold frames on allotments but either way don't expect much if any money for them I have a pair slowly rotting in my front garden!

I've had my windows done now. If anyone can get to South London (Brixton) and wants up to 6 very good condition sash window frames for mirrors etc. send me a Trust message or reply here... Saves me a trip to the tip!

You won't get money for them but put them on Facebook/gumtree free tona good home and save them from land fill. Then blag a discount for the new Windows as you saved disposal costs.
