I'm going to be selling quite a few games (all under £20 on Buy it Now) and I'm wondering if it's worth the extra cost of sending them via signed for or will 1st Class with proof of postage do?

Simple question and just wondering what peoples opinion are :)

help yourself and read the seller protection rules before doing anything, then you would know never to chance it with normal mail.
And due to large fees and hassle, ebay should be seen as a last resort, even selling much cheaper else where can mean you actually end up with more money.

Conversely, I've sold loads on eBay, and I've only been "stung" once, where someone said they didn't receive something I sent. The buyer had relatively low feedback, and I ended up losing about £15. I definitely would be worse off, to the tune of at least £100, if I had opted for signed for every time instead of risking it and going with standard 1st/2nd.

In your situation, I would list items as free postage, then if you get a particularly dodgy looking buyer, or one you feel dodgy about for whatever reason, then you can choose to spend the money to cover yourself for that specific instance. If I were you, I wouldn't even begin to think about blanket sending at "signed for" for such low value items. It really isn't worth it in my experienced opinion.

:edit: Only do the above with the knowledge that if you don't send at least "signed for" then eBay/PayPal will side with the buyer in any dispute. IMO/E, in your situation you'll be much better off risking it with standard despite this.

No, I send stuff all the time.. small package 2nd class signed for, royal mail is still 3.90, and that's up to 2kgs.. I generally use that on stuff £10+ check their site, the dimensions are rather large.. Most folk are reasonably clued up, Make sure you offer a reduction, on multi purchases, you'll need to edit one of your listings to get the option to show up.. then you are good forever. Good luck and happy selling.

Sounds like sound advise Zefan, I've tried selling on forums etc. but it's just not a big enough market and tends to be too slow and frankly too low. e.g. Just sold a game I couldn't get any interest in at £7 but it sold for £11 almost straight away. I just need to have a big clear out and don't want it to take forever. Think I'll go with the advise of 1st class unless dodgy looking then signed for at least till I get stung! and to be fair nearly everything I buy off ebay isn't signed for.

Many of my items I just post with second class and get proof of postage ( which insures up to £20 anyway ). Anything of value I will usually charge much more postage and send by DPD insured anyway. On the cheaper tat I will just stick it in the postbox. The potential of losing £5 or 10 is not the end of the world and considering the vast amount of stuff I have posted this way and only had a few rare issues. The extra hassle of needing to queue for proof of postage often is not worth it.

For games under £20 id just stick to first class with proof of postage.

I have never had a problem sending games/low value items by normal 1st/2nd class post. You get up to £20 compo anyway if it goes missing.

Well I've just sold two games but already advertised them as "1st class recorded delivery" so I guess I'll have to send them this way. In future I'll try 1st class post for sub £20 stuff and see how I get on.

Signed for every time. Ebay require it as proof of delivery iirc.

sold 350+ items on ebay, £2 - £40, none sent recorded (all 2nd class), 2 NDRs £40 lost... £350+ (bit of a guess) saved on postage...

over £50 recorded under £50 as cheap as possible

*** only post to UK, don't post to <10 feedback people ***

Great if you sell a lot and can absorb any cost of issues..

send as a 1st or 2nd class small parcel/ large letter or whatever, and get a proof of postage receipt always
most people dont want to pay several quid postage for something this price

proof of postage doesn't mean **** when a paypal claim is opened. It's proof of delivery that really counts and you only get that via signed for delivery.
