Selling TF2 crates?

Hi there,

On my friends list some guy asked me for a random crate, no idea what crates are or what they do but anyway I gave it to him. He was a nice chap and told me that it was worth a lot! Asked me if I was sure I wanted nothing in return (I did not, I have all my Pyro goodies) and went on his way.

Not too long ago I asked him why it was so valuable, he says it was rare and in real hard cash can cost $30.

Now I have some more crates that some people want and are asking me about, my question is where, how or can I even - sell TF2 crates for real cash?

I think they have a Steam Market currently in Beta which means you can trade in rare or common items for real world cash...as long as some one wants to buy them that is..

Certain # crates drop certain items, take into consideration rare hats and the unusuals too.
Some of the hats are silly popular and expensive.

I used to have loads of people messaging me wanting my bills hat since its apparently worth a fair bit. Worked out how to keep my inventory private and no more messages happy days still have my bills hat as well.

Now have a grand total of 50p in my steam wallet as a result.

You can buy, sell & trade on TF2 Outpost but like everywhere else, you may encounter scammers. I reckon the OP might've had a series 40 crate as items from those are highly sought after.

Lord have mercy! I take it the whole process of getting cash will be pain in the back side with a slight chance of getting scammed though.

I traded mine a couple of weeks ago for 25 keys, which at £1.99 a key makes the whole thing ridiculous!
