Selling via gumtree - Paypal?

I have something for sale on Gumtree and a potential buyer wants to pay with PayPal and they organise a courier.

What steps can I take to avoid being ripped off?

Step one - dont sell to this guy

Paypal, no seller protection and he arranges delivery so you have none of his personal details?

Seems legit

Ha. I have emailed him back and said I will do bank transfer only, somehow doubt he will agree.

Gumtree is all about cash in hand imo.

I've never had issues buying or selling on there, but it's always cash in hand on pickup.

I haven't used the site for about 2 years, but the last time I did they made it pretty clear.

MM or AV forums for tech stuff when i am selling. I dont mind taking a small hit on the price to sell it nice and easy.

He's just said he'll pick it up tomorrow and pay cash, so I got his phone number, bit of googling I have his address and email, plus Facebook. Seems fairly safe?

Yes in person and cash no problem. Sold something on Monday night on Gumtree the same way and it's the only way to go on there in my opinion. I have sold a fair few things on gumtree and been contacted by scammers about 50% of the time.

I have. But the reality is that the MM these days is pretty poor, everyone wants something for nothing in there. You can actually make more money selling on eBay with most items compared to the MM I've found. It's certainly not like it was 5 years ago or so.

fair enough, just to add i have never add any issues with cash buyers on gumtree, anything else is prob a scam
