Selling 'VIP' Mobile Numbers

Hi all,

I've just been given a PAYG SIM card alongside a new contract SIM, and it has a pretty memorable number. Has anyone here sold a number on eBay or the like? Is it as simple as flogging on the unregistered SIM?

For those interested, the number is of the format 07X 55555 X5X. Looking at eBay, it could be worth a few quid. There's no point in me holding onto it as I already have a memorable mobile number and I may as well get something for it if I can.

Anyone done this before?
 
No but I have had my number about 23ish years from Orange, then they sold to EE and I swapped to Virgin.

At the time I contacted EE to leave they offered me right away £500 for my number and I said no thanks, I got another call at another date with an offer of £1200, than again later another offer of £1500 and finally just before I left I was asked if I would consider it for £2000 and again I said no.

I still have the number and it is a private number I do not give out randomly to anyone but close friends and well a few family members in the past but not so close now (I mean its has not been spammed the hell out of or given to daft birds I met etc).

I like it as it repeats so easy to remember and start with 0777 when back then numbers did not need to start with 07 some were 02 etc.
 
I'm surprised these numbers aren't 'retained' by the Telcos for the specific purpose of flogging them on for a much higher rate, in the same way as happens with car number plates.
 
Ofcom or whatever that branch is called made the decision many years ago the number belongs to the customer unless they leave and no longer want it (PAC Code to keep it)), not the provider as it did before that decision.

Is it not quite difficult to tell people that number

"0 , 7 , X , quintuple five ." Or "five five five five five" I can just imagine the average person being bamboozled or wondering if they have heard the right amount of fives.

As for difficulty in giving other people the number - I can see where you're coming from, but if people will pay extra for it then who am I to turn down their money? :D
 
I'd say go for it, 0786 8888 786 sold for £510, which is vaguely similar to the one you've got. Especially if you don't need or want it.

07x00000700 apparently sold for £65k and 07700007007 sold for £35k, which is mental money for a phone number
 
Cheers guys. As for how much, no idea really. Similar numbers seem to go for £100-300.

Jesus that is pretty insane, I didn't even realise until today there was market for selling nice phone numbers like that!

I know people were doing similar selling nice emails like [email protected] (for example) but didn't know it was a thing for mobile numbers too.

Is there anyone with the number 07777777777? :D:D Don't see why there wouldn't be
