I recently upgraded to a core2duo, so I sold the old rig to my mate. It uses an Asus A8NSLI32 (nforce 4sli chip) and came with a S939 AMD X2 4400+ (+ sli 7600gt's a hiper power typer 580 and 4 ide hd's and 1 sata hd)
It would be fair to say I was no less than blind drunk when I rebuilt it for my mate, and apparently i left almost 50 quid and a box of smokes inside the case, as well as saying I would airstrike my mates.
Anyway, when he got it home he tried to install windows xp 32 bit home and then professional, with no luck - he noticed that the heatsink wasnt seated right so he called me in and i put her on right this time, but windows kept BSOD on the second start sequence of the windows setup (after the text part)
The BSOD said that my MoBo was not ACPI complaint, which is wrong as:- i installed at least 5 different variations of windows when i had it, including the ones which he tried, and i tried to press the F7 key which disables the ACPI function in windows, I even reflashed the bios using the newest bios in dos.
Do you think its possible I damaged the CPU (even though the computer still POSTs) by not putting the h/s on correctly, or is this something which is easily fixed in 5 minutes like most of the mistakes I make?
Thanks for your help!
