Hey there,
first post on this forum ive been a member of the american based overclockers.net for a while never knew there was a british based forum

well here we go

been buying little bits at a time when i can afford it
and now im looking at buying a processor,
ive been looking at the phenom 550 BE for a while now but the wife wont let me spend that much :(
she does not understand:)
this is my first build but ive read a lot of material on building etc
and its always interested me,

so had a little nosey at the sempron and apparently its unlockable and can oc pretty high obviously with the right memory and mobo

at the momento
i have purchased a new GA-720-us3 mobo
bought some ddr2 667mhz 4gb off ebay untested but at £20 thats a risk, but worth it,

im looking for a very budget gaming build as i would like to play the new call of duty all the recent games.

is the sempron a good budget processor and would it handle the fps rates of these games,
i know a decent gpu would be needed, but thats a different question

anyways any advice is welcome

Thanks

Sempron 140 Worth it?
I've been tempted to buy one myself because here in the UK they are selling really, really cheap, as you already know a Sempron 140 (Sargas) is just an Athlon II (Regor) with one core disabled running at 2.7GHz.

If you use a motherboard featuring an SB750/SB710 Southbridge you may well be one of the lucky few who managed to *unlock* the extra core and transform the chip back into a proper Regor Dually . . . . on top of that they appear to have some good scope for overclocking too! :D

If you take the gamble you have to face the fact if your unlucky you may end up with a mono core, still very useful and amazingly power efficient so would be more than capable of powering a high end HTPC but I'm not sure how a mono core would fare in a multi-core world, decisions, decisions ;)

No one ever thought such power was available for £25
