Should have pc3200 for maximum 'performance', if you can call it that. Remember you need low latencies too for good performance, although on that system it won't matter much and end up costing more than the cpu for some decent ram.

What socket is it, 754?
Remember there are semprons on 4 sockets and 3 are 64bit so you should state the socket when asking questions. Plus its 32 bit when its running normal xp pro.

I quite like semprons, very cheap, very cool and hence quiet and the one i put in a build for someone overclocked nicely and was still cool.

I would use one again if i were on a tight budget but with the A64 prices down so low its usually best to spend a little more for that.

The Sempron is agreat little chip for its price. It came in 2 forms, Socket A and Socket 754.

Socket A:
AMD Sempron 2200+ - SDA2200DUT3D (SDA2200BOX)
AMD Sempron 2200+ - SDC2200DUT3D (SDC2200BOX)
AMD Sempron 2300+ - SDA2300DUT3D (SDA2300BOX)
AMD Sempron 2400+ - SDA2400DUT3D (SDA2400BOX)
AMD Sempron 2400+ - SDC2400DUT3D (SDC2400BOX)
AMD Sempron 2500+ - SDA2500DUT3D (SDA2500BOX)
AMD Sempron 2600+ - SDA2600DUT3D (SDA2600BOX)
AMD Sempron 2600+ - SDC2600DUT3D (SDC2600BOX)
AMD Sempron 2800+ - SDA2800DUT3D (SDA2800BOX)
AMD Sempron 2800+ - SDC2800DUT3D (SDC2800BOX)
AMD Sempron 3000+ - SDA3000DUT4D (SDA3000BOX)

No 64-bit.

Socket 754:
AMD Sempron 64 2500+ - SDA2500AIO3BX (SDA2500BXBOX)
AMD Sempron 2600+ - SDA2600AIO2BA (SDA2600BABOX)
AMD Sempron 64 2600+ - SDA2600AIO2BO (SDA2600BOBOX)
AMD Sempron 64 2600+ - SDA2600AIO2BX (SDA2600BXBOX)
AMD Sempron 2800+ - SDA2800AIO3BA (SDA2800BABOX)
AMD Sempron 64 2800+ - SDA2800AIO3BO (SDA2800BOBOX)
AMD Sempron 3000+ - SDA3000AIP2AX
AMD Sempron 3000+ - SDA3000AIO2BA (SDA3000BABOX)
AMD Sempron 64 3000+ - SDA3000AIO2BO (SDA3000BOBOX)
AMD Sempron 64 3000+ - SDA3000AIO2BX (SDA3000BXBOX)
AMD Sempron 3100+ - SDA3100AIP3AX
AMD Sempron 3100+ - SDA3100AIO3BA (SDA3100BABOX)
AMD Sempron 64 3100+ - SDA3100AIO3BO (SDA3100BOBOX)
AMD Sempron 64 3100+ - SDA3100AIO3BX (SDA3100BXBOX)
AMD Sempron 3300+ - SDA3300AIO2BA (SDA3300BABOX)
AMD Sempron 64 3300+ - SDA3300AIO2BO (SDA3300BOBOX)
AMD Sempron 64 3300+ - SDA3300AIO2BX (SDA3300BXBOX)
AMD Sempron 64 3400+ - SDA3400AIO3BX (SDA3400BXBOX)

Some 64-Bits but not all.

Same really that not all 754 are 64bit. But then again not everyone wants 64bit CPUs.

Despite being advertised as budget line of AMD processors, Sempron socket A processors are simply re-branded Athlon XP processors. All Sempron socket A processors have 333 MHz (166 MHz DDR) bus speed and are manufactured on the 0.13 micron technology.

K8 Sempron CPUs are based on the same core as Athlon 64 processors, with some of processor features limited:

* Earlier Sempron microprocessors didn't support 64-bit mode.
* The processors have smaller size of L2 cache - 128 Kb or 256 KB.
* The processors have single channel memory controller and slower HyperTransport link.
