Sending a fax with a laptop

I got an Acer Travelmate 8204 that includes a modem (has an rj-11 port). Now I want to send a fax. Can I just connect my modem to the phone socket and use a fax application to send faxes? And is it also possible to send faxes when I connect my cell phone to my laptop and use it as a modem?

I think what you said can be accomplished yes.
But if you want to scan the document you will obviously need a scanner

If you need to fax regularly why not consider something like this: http://home.efax.com/s/r/uk_home?CMP=OTC-uk

We use the broadcast side at work which seems to do the trick.

No problem! I think by the sound of it, using your laptop and phone line should be sufficient for your purposes.

Actually that fax service is pretty nifty also!
