Hello
Is there any way to send a text to a uk phone, using something such as emailing [theirnumber]@o2.com or something? I read that some networks (in usa) work like that. I need a user on a page to input a little message (their number), and text it to my phone (so i can call them back)

Any links/advice would be great
cheers

at work we use a vb ocx control called 'Oxygen' which allows you to set centre number etc and thn send a message through vb to a mobile phone number (actually, it lets you do loads more) but that should let you do the job.
The only downside is that we use an old phone connected to the computer via the com port to actually do it...

how about just getting them to send an email to one of your email accounts, and then checking your email periodically on your phone?

Yep you can do that - I used to with BT Cellnet (now o2) email my phone. Also you can set youremail account to send you your emails from a particular person.

Just found this:

"Luckily, there are alternatives. You can receive email by SMS for free by registering with O2 at http://www.o2.co.uk/. This service is provided by O2, but can be used by customers of all networks. You choose a name, and get an address of the form [email protected] o2 only sends the first 160 characters of each email, and will "bounce" very large emails back to the sender. Another option is Locust at http://www.locust.net which will split incoming emails into several SMS messages and send them to your phone. This service costs £3 per month, with no per-message charge. Locust also offers some information services for free, and allows you to send email by SMS."

i'm sure you could incorporate the services offered here into what you're trying to achieve. set up a form that sends an email to [email protected], limit the field to 160 chars, and you're sorted :)
