Hey, when trying to connect two computers using a crossover cable one computer is sending and recieved packets and the other is not.

Another thing, these computers was both connected to a wireless router (One using wireless one using a patch) before this then the internet stopped working aswell as al shared documents ect. I turned to the crossover as I thought the router could have been broken.

Heres what I've done
-Set each computer with a manual ip 192.168.1.9 & 192.169.1.10 as they assigning an automatic IP didn't work. (They are on the same subnet)
-They are both on the same workgroup.
-Neither can ping each other
-Ping 127.0.0.1 works fine on both machines.
-Ive tried doing all the network setup wizards ect.
-Turned off all firewalls on both machines.
-Computer 'A' has sent packets but 0 recieved, computer 'B' has sent and recieved packets.

-Both computers are using windows XP

I'm not an IT tech and I'm not sure if all this is relevant but any help would be much apprieated.

Many thanks

You say '192.168.1.9 & 192.169.1.10' is the 169 a typo? if not put them both on 192.168.1.* and see if they work ok.

Yea sorry 169 is a typo

Update: Tried a new NIC in the computer thats not recieving no change there. The other is onboard mobo 965p-DS3.

correct

patch cable should have matchng colour order at both ends

crossover will be different

Crossover , one end is

GrnW/Grn/OraW/Blu/BluW/Ora/BrnW/Brn

other end will be

OraW/Ora/GrnW/Blu/BluW/Grn//BrnW/Brn

patch cable can be either of the above (usually the latter though) but has to be the same at both ends.

Checked both ends, definitly a crossover cable. I think I will try a NIC instead of the DS3 onboard lan. After that I have no idea what to do tho

FIXED! Changed the IP to 192.168.0.1 & 192.168.0.2 (Prob didn't do anything)

Went to Network Connections-Advanced-Firewall Settings-Advanced Then clicked off the the 'Local Area Connection'

My Mistake for thinking turning 'Windows Firewall Off' Actually turned all window firewall settings off.

Anyway Result!
