Sending in Mail very slow

Mail is very slow at sending outgoing e-mail. I've never had any problems with the server in question, so it seems to be program specific.

Could it be anything to do with SSL being enabled? Would that slow things down?

I think it is just very slow, I know sending via mobileme from mail is pretty sloth like for me. Never been very bothered by it myself but it does take a while - I assume an app issue??

Used to get sub 10KB/s sending multiple emails but just tried one with a big attachment now and it's going at 40KB/s or so, slower than my connection by a long way but better than usual...
