Sending messages across IP?

I have a netgear router with 5 machines connected to it. Not all the people use MSN so there is no way to contact them unless walking (OMG)...

Is there a way to send messages across IP?

So it pops up on their desktop, using command prompt? Not sure if ''net send'' still works, or how it works on Vista.

I take it this is net send?

What do you type in to cmd?

net send (ip) message

Thats it?

Also, I can't find something that relates to 'messenger' in services, could it be called something else on Vista? There are only three things disabled and none remote to anything like messaging.
