Sending television to someone?

I'm thinking of selling the Xbox and the HDTV combo together, but how would I go about sending a 32" television to someone? Find a big box, shove it in there with lots of padding, get it weighted in at the post office and that's it? I don't want to do something stupid like posting a thread in MM only to be stumped on how to send the actual items.

You'll want to deal with a courier rather than the Royal Mail. There's a website which lets you pick from many after entering the details of the package. Here we go - http://www.parcel2go.com/
Protip for weighing it - stand on your scales, take weight. Pick up telly, stand on scales. Record weight, subtract the two.

Find a big box, package it, and contact a courier.

(sorry if that sounds a bit abrupt but that's how I'd do it).

Aah, of course - akin to when you needed to find the volume of a pebble at school.

lol When im baking a cake, I stand on the scales with some flour then weigh the flour on its own then subtract the 2 to find the weight of the flour.

You could do the same with the TV ?

I would seriously expect it to arrive broken though unless you paid top dollar.

Parcel 2 go have been a waste of time the last 2 times i used them.

Agreed. Posted an Antec Skelton case through them and it promptly got lost. Obviously the blame lies with the courior selected, but it took me over a month to have my claim settled after I followed everything by the book.

You might want to avoid Parcel2go, a guy on another forum I use has recently found out that TVs are excluded from any cover should they get damaged in transit.

You may find that LCD televisions are exempt from any kind of insurance cover when sending via courier

Almost all couriers do this, the only one who does is, http://www.interlinkdirect.co.uk/online_sales/initialise.action

I think anyway.

Most of the others exclude monitors of all types and sizes, Interlink insured the 24" screen I sent, heavy NEC one, though I think they too only insure up to a certain size of screen.

Personally if it wasn't in the box designed for it, with the right shaped stuffing in the box to hold it tightly in place I wouldn't even remotly think about it.

Sell it to a friend, family member or on a forum specifically saying local pickup only and help whoever buys it stick it in their car.

I personally wouldn't risk it as most places won't insure it and even the ones that do, if they find out it was shipped in the wrong box, IE if its damaged and they inspect the damage and box they'll most likely say it was shipped inadequately.

EDIT:- INterlink's T&C's say screens over 26" not excepted at all, most of the other websites won't insure any size of screen, though some will let you send them, its a huge risk with zero cover, just sell it locally is the best bet.

Parcelmonkey will not insure tv,s.. When i sent my 42" plasma the only company that would insure it was HDNL (Home delivery network) It cost £25 so not too bad. I had to contact them direct to arrange it..

Have used Parcel2Go 2-3 times recently and not had any problems with the at all. Collected on the correct day and delivered on time, undamaged too. The courier I picked was 'HomeDeliveryNetwork' I think, the cheapest one.

I sent a TV via ParcelForce a few years ago for about £25.
