Sennheiser Momentum for £95

yep, high price due to being a fashion accessory rather than relating to sound quality, which is where they've got their bad rep from amongst those that enjoy audio (I refuse to use that name) :D

these are now on deal of the day on the UK site for the same price £95

I may buy them as a upgrade to my HD25-1 II's and give them to the wife

edit:

just ordered the ivory/brown after reading this

Final Words:

Going from what I heard from my special review samples, the $349 Amperior is a good headphone, based on the $199 HD25 with some tweaks costing quite a bit more. The Amperior’s sound is different from the HD25’s sound but still has the same basis. I won’t say it’s better or worse as it simply depends on your own preferences. I think that with the characteristics given by Mike you can make a good choice for yourself. For me the good old HD25 is the more enjoyable one, my Amperior sample just is too “aggressive” sounding and I hope I can get to listen to another, different unit soon. The $349 Momentum, with its different sound, is the best of all three. It’s the most linear one, has the best bass and mids and wins comfort wise.

I took the Amperior to a local meet and actually almost no one borrowed it from my table making me wonder if people were really waiting for a “new” HD25 (That confirms what Mike said about his friends and the Amperior). The so completely different Momentum is a headphone that looks great for most and sounds good, it’s that simple. This headphone was specifically made for on the go but any “audiophile” will probably love it too. It’s hard not to like for casual listening actually and I really loved using it on the go. At home for some critical listening you could use the Momentum too but there of course are other options available on the market for that.

The gold medal obviously is for the Momentum. Silver and bronze medals are a not as easy to hand out in my case as the results might be a bit off. The Amperior should be the improved HD25 and it costs quite a bit more but I keep going back to the original HD25, especially with that aggressive Amperior sample of mine. That, in combination with the pricing of both, makes the silver medal goes to the HD25 in my case.

Sennheiser has 3 great headphones in the portable segment with these units and I hope the Momentum will still be here in 20 years, just like the HD25.

To finish I’d like to apologize for the weird review, I hope I can get another sample soon so we can set this straight. I could have just let Mike write the sound impressions but my Amperior really sounded like that and so I had to mention it.

paedoAudiophile?

Audiophiles should be locked up. We used to have one down the road when we were children. Our parents told us all to be careful and not let him anywhere our stereos. Apparently he used to love fiddling with settings. Poor Johnny Brown let him in one time and his bass was never the same again.

nice spud!

Having used the momentum over ears I really liked the feel shape and design of them Aesthetically no one can deny they look pretty good. As do many headphones these days though.

The feel incredibly well made weren't heavy on the head either. They are literally the best headphones I've ever listened to so I can't comment on quality of sound in comparison to cheaper or similar priced products I can just say that I liked them and wouldn't have been put off by the price.

I've been tempted to get a set of commuting headphones, was looking at the over ear so I could use them at home for movies and gaming too. Are the on ears too far behind the on ears as at £95 they are appealing!

I'm in two minds. I'd like to use them in the office also, but the over ears may be too big. My worry is the on ears will leak too much. They'd be a multi purpose set for music, movies, gaming etc.
