Sensei Issues (Mouse Drift/Moving on its own)

Evenin'.

I originally asked this over on Tomshardware but didn't get any sort of useful reply, so hopefully you guys are a bit more helpful.

I recently purchased a Steelseries Apex keyboard and a Sensei (Pro) mouse. The keyboard is working perfectly but I'm having issues with the mouse.

The cursor will move across the screen even when the mouse is stationary. When I do move the mouse, the movements are quite erratic and difficult to control, often resulting in a battle with the mouse to get the cursor to move in the direction I want.

I thought this may have been due to my mouse mat (I was using a cheap £1 mousemat) so I bought the SteelSeries Surface QcK Mini. While being much nicer to use, this has not fixed the issue. I have played with CPI settings, disabling pointer precision in the control panel, etc., but nothing has made a difference.

I read on the Steelseries FAQ that the recommended mousepad for the Sensei is the 4HD, but the FAQ also states that cloth mousepads are 100% compatible too; so I am doubtful that is the issue.

I have tried using the mouse in a different computer and it still moves by itself. These computers (1 desktop and 1 laptop) are on the same desk as one another so I dunno if that has anything to do with it.

Also, I have updated the mouse's firmware to the latest release.

Any ideas what could be causing this and any way it could be resolved? Anyone had this issue? I cannot use the mouse in its current state and may have to return it to the supplier if I can't get it sorted soon.

These so-called gaming peripherals are turning out to be more hassle than they are worth. Oh, how I miss my old Wheel Mouse Optical :D

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, thought that'd be the case :/

I think I'll try sending it back. Apparently they'll only refund the money if they test it and get the same results.

I'll have a look into the Zowie. I know a lot of people swear by the Razer Deathadder. Thoughts?

Are you sure the mouse is not moving? The cable is pretty rigid when you first get it and mine did the same. The cable was pulling the mouse ever so slightly when it was left alone. It get softer after a while and mine stopped doing it. I am using a cloth mat as well.

If you like the shape then the Deathadder is a perfect mouse

I just booted up my desktop to try your theory. Thought I'd try pressing down on the mouse whilst it was happening. I can't be 100% sure, but when it was moving by itself, when I pressed down on it, the movement stopped. You may be right :D There was never any noticeable movement (as in, I could never see the actual mouse moving, so the movement must have been incredibly small)

Do you think this would explain the mouse 'resisting' when I move the mouse though? It wouldn't do it every time, just every so often.

How long did your mouse take to stop messing around?
