Hello

Opsi posted before finished this.

Making PCs with kids is great fun, just mindful that some appear to be addicted to PC games..........

I encourage them to use their rigs for good and evil, I am a gamer myself.

Any tips on managing childrens (11 to 15) online, using PCs for projects and limiting online antics to sensible appreciated. Best one I have heard is a changing wifi password which you get if you have been good!

I plan to make a simple PC with two 11 year olds this winter.

I think they mentioned learning to code - will that be visual basic?
They can make a WordPress site

Balance of making them smarter and of course having fun!

Anything else you can think of welcome.

Thanks Josh. I am still reeling at the number of Cosimo posts, over 150,000!

I have to get back to my paid work now Josh.

Yeah Cosimo spams like mad.

On topic however, my 8 year old does Code Academy, like a basic child friendly introduction into coding. Might be too easy for your children if they already have experience etc.

Paid work? Thank god, never work for free. That's positively ghastly.

Dear god no. Get them writing Perl on a Raspberry pi.

I'd also suggest framing it slightly differently. Don't teach them to code for the sake of it. Find a problem that can be solved by a pi and some custom code which they are enthusiastic about. That way they'll be much more self motivated because they want the outcome of the solution.

How about this:

Have a dynamic WiFi password or something.

You can then set code that your children need to solve or complete to unlock the password.

Lovin those ideas fellas thank you very much indeed!
Pi
Code Academy - looks boss - ty Josh
Code breaking - they love maths (?)

I am off to research those........and setting up a Pi............
