Im currently using a 920 do at 3.8ghz with some crappy ocz 6gb 1333 ram and gtx 275 for video on a 1440x900 monitor.

The monitor will be upgraded when the benq 24" 3d vision 2 becomes available and at that point I will upgrade to the best single gpu nvidia card I can afford.

In the mean time, is it worth it to bung in 12b of quicker ram to allow a better overclock on my cpu or would I be better of leaving it alone till I upgrade to sb?

Im not intrested in bf3 at all- more looking forward to street fighter x tekken and Im looking forward to play arkham city in 3d if possible so I'm hoping my cpu won't hold back the next gen of nvidia cards??!

Merry christmas lads :)

Your cpu is still a corker, 12gb is a nice little upgrade, (done it myself this week from 6gb of 1600mhz ram ) kept my 4ghz oc as well. A new gpu when available will be a nice addition for a gaming rig. The 920's are old, but still pack a lot of punch for gaming. Also used to have gtx 275's in sli, prior to my current 470's.

EDIT: Ram kit i bought was this one.

gosh its so cheap these days its almost rude not too! Have you found 12gb help give a smoother sli experience in instances where the game may have needed to borrow system ram when there wasn't enough vram?

+1. An i7 920@ 4.0GHz certainly isn't a slouch.

A nice set of 1600MHz 12GB of RAM woud be a decent upgrade but if all your doing is gaming you won't really notice any improvement.

I wouldn't bother with changing to SB at this time but agree with you that a new monitor should be first priority then a decent GPU. An i7 [email protected] certainly won't be any sort of bottleneck!

No difference in games with sli, but windows is a bit nippier. The 6gb kit i was using was a very high end ocz reaper kit, 1600mhz @7-7-7-24. Just bought the kinston as it was a great price, the reapers cost £160.00 when bought new. In bf3 im seeing about 2gb of system ram usage. 1200mb of gpu ram, 1280mb cards. Played on ultra with high deferred aa, 16x af, no motion blur. Averaging 90fps.

Gtx 580, very nice. Btw, how do you find the 275's in the p6 x58 temp wise? I have a second x58 rig, stock i7 930 with sli gtx 460's, but the cards run pretty hot in it, well top one does. 79 and 50c respectively in game. Also looking forward to the new benq 120hz monitors as well.

In game they hit around 80-82 when maxed out  They are litertally next to each other though! Theres not much in it usually around a 5 degree difference as my case has a lot of gpu cooling.

Yep, the 460's i have are very close together as well mate.
