I sent a letter to GBuk complaining about the Marvell SATA3 ports on my H61MA-D3V mobo underperforming as I bought the board thinking I would get the 6Gbps linkspeed they advertised for the board, they called me up today upon receipt of said letter and apologized, the guy said that 'Gigabyte HQ' are looking into it and are also taking it up with Marvell and in the meantime his Manager would like to offer me a free motherboard so I can have Native Intel SATA3 ports (GA-H77M-D3H) - I was extremely pleased with the result because the truth is I did pay £40 extra for a SATA3 board & SSD to get the 550MB/s reads, the board was advertised as having "High speed SATA3 storage interface with superfast 6Gbps link speed" but the truth is this board's SATA3 ports can only achieve circa 370MB/s read and usually has slightly worse latency, IOPS and write than Intel's SATA2 ports, the Marvell 'add-on' chipset is just poor in comparison to native SATA chipsets and should not be classed as SATA3.
anyway, I will have this board on Wednesday and would like to know if its possible to swap them without a full reinstall? the Intel SATA controllers are already installed for my HDD, my SSD (Windows 7 x64) runs on Marvell SATA3 - Iam thinking I could simply uninstall the Marvell controller before swapping the boards and thus being re-seated into a Intel SATA3 port with Intel controller already installed it might work? - that said the controllers installed from Intel website would have been for 6-series chipset and its a 7-series the new board??
any advice welcome
thanks
