I sent a letter to GBuk complaining about the Marvell SATA3 ports on my H61MA-D3V mobo underperforming as I bought the board thinking I would get the 6Gbps linkspeed they advertised for the board, they called me up today upon receipt of said letter and apologized, the guy said that 'Gigabyte HQ' are looking into it and are also taking it up with Marvell and in the meantime his Manager would like to offer me a free motherboard so I can have Native Intel SATA3 ports (GA-H77M-D3H) - I was extremely pleased with the result because the truth is I did pay £40 extra for a SATA3 board & SSD to get the 550MB/s reads, the board was advertised as having "High speed SATA3 storage interface with superfast 6Gbps link speed" but the truth is this board's SATA3 ports can only achieve circa 370MB/s read and usually has slightly worse latency, IOPS and write than Intel's SATA2 ports, the Marvell 'add-on' chipset is just poor in comparison to native SATA chipsets and should not be classed as SATA3.

anyway, I will have this board on Wednesday and would like to know if its possible to swap them without a full reinstall? the Intel SATA controllers are already installed for my HDD, my SSD (Windows 7 x64) runs on Marvell SATA3 - Iam thinking I could simply uninstall the Marvell controller before swapping the boards and thus being re-seated into a Intel SATA3 port with Intel controller already installed it might work? - that said the controllers installed from Intel website would have been for 6-series chipset and its a 7-series the new board??

any advice welcome :)

thanks

horaaah for gigabyte customer service

you might be fine just plug it in the intel sata3 ports and off you go

did you originally instal windows in ahci mode? if so youll be ok,the intel drivers are seperate from the marvell,it will just pick up what drivers it needs depending on what port you choose

yeah I installed windows in AHCI mode - I will give it a shot anyway - hope so as i have a lot of music software installed , it will take 2 days to re-install

Hey,

Any chance you can provide the address, I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I've got an issue with my board having a known fault (which is all over their forums) but the support guys say no issue.

there were two addresses and I sent too both and i think one is debunk so google the other and send to both recorded del.,

RE: Misadvertising of Motherboard Specifications – 08.03.13

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter with regards to the motherboard I recently purchased; I feel that I have been lied too and conned slightly by Gigabyte.
I bought the Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D3V (rev 2.1) motherboard from ****** on the 12th February 2013 to go into my new Core-i5 3470 build because it said on your website that it supported SATA3 and has “high-speed SATA3 storage interface with superfast 6Gbps link speed”. So I bought this board and a SATA3 SSD, I spent £40 more on this setup instead of the cheaper SATA2 combination I was going to buy because I thought I would get the 550MB/s speeds from the SATA3 SSD, it wasn’t until I had it setup and installed that I noticed the drive heavily under-performing, when I sought help from the SSD manufacturers forum (and other forums such as overclockers uk) it soon became apparent (and is well documented on the web once you become aware of it and check) that the SATA3 ports on this particular motherboard weren’t really “high-speed” SATA3 ports “with superfast 6Gbps link-speed”, but instead they are some cheaper underperforming SATA3 ports made my Marvell and these ports can barely achieve read speeds above SATA2 and actually have worse latency and write speeds than SATA2..!

Your own website states the following for this board “High speed SATA3 storage interface with superfast 6Gbps link speed” – when this is blatantly un-true? , my SSD only achieves 50MB/s more read speed than on the Intel SATA2 controller (circa 350MB/s when it should be getting 550MB/s) and write and latency speeds are worse than on the Intel SATA2 Controller! – I tested my SSD on my Dads P67 board and my friends Z77 board in their ‘Native’ Intel SATA3 ports and right enough the speeds were there, right up to 550MB/s and better write & latency speeds too .. not that I needed to test it because once I was made aware of the issue I noticed it is well documented all over the web about these Marvell SATA3 ports, there are many people in the same situation who buy them only to find out later when it underperforms that they have been ‘conned’ and they use the SATA2 ports instead because they generally perform better than SATA2 Marvell ports!

I contacted your Sales Department about this who did not bother too reply, so a week or so later I contacted the Technical Department who also failed too reply, I cannot believe that Gigabyte support is this bad? For years I have continually used Gigabyte boards for reliability, I feel they are worth the extra cost compared to other boards, I always advise my customers to buy Gigabyte for new builds and upgrades, I would hate to have to turn to Asus instead because of all this, it’s bad enough buying a product that states it can do one thing but turns out it does not, but then having the company ignore you about the issue is even worse?

I would like to know what Gigabyte intend to do about this? I feel like I have been conned! The board should not be advertised as SATA3 when it does not perform anywhere near SATA3 standards, it does not have a superfast 6Gbps link speed like you claim it does? And I certainly cannot afford a Z77 mATX board to get the ‘Native’ Intel SATA3 ports either, if I had known this would happen I would have bought the much cheaper SATA2 ‘only’ Board and a SATA2 SSD as I now have the same performance as that setup but at a much higher cost because Gigabyte’s product cannot perform too the standards they say it does.
I would really appreciate it if someone could contact me by email about this matter

i did , they where on phone straight away apologising..I could have been anyone just making it up as they didnt want proof or returns, just shipped H77 out too address lol.
