Hi guys,

Hope you're all well. I've recently started to look in to Google AdWords and the such. I'm really interested in trailing it in the business I work for to see how it goes for them. The only problem, they've done it before, and it went question. Mostly down to the fact that they were using pretty high cost per click words.

If possible I would like some help from you guys, if anyone has done it before - have they have any success stories, if so, what sort of tactic did you use? Also, some pretty good beginner's information/slide shows I could maybe show to management.

My IT Manager won't let me try it on our site currently as he sees it as a waste of time (even though we're quite quiet at the moment and I'd quite happily do it in my spare time!). I was considering starting up a blog with a YouTube page, maybe just doing some game reviews, one month without AdWords and one month with AdWords and see how it goes.

Hopefully some of you guys can help! :)

If possible, does anyone have some good beginners guides for SEO? I'm not really sure where to start with it all! Do I go for: AdWords then use Google Analytic to look at the data from AdWords?

Sorry if I'm using the wrong forum, or if someone wants to tell me to **** off and go to some other forums, that's fine :p

The first thing to think about is "What are you actually trying to achieve?" then you can plan your strategy.

SEO is Search Engine Optimization and generally refers to getting your site ranked better in the organic listings. Adwords is the ads you see at the top and sides of Google and is sold on a Pay Per Click basis so generally referred to as PPC.

They are quite separate things (there are connections but that's a talk for another time) so depending on your goals you might do things differently.

Fantastic, thanks for them links. Well I think first of all, I would just like to show how successful it can be. I would like to start with SEO to show what it is like against competitors and how much we're missing out not actually doing it.

I will definitely have a read through them websites over the next couple of days and go from there, with what seems best :)

SEO can be quite slow, it can take weeks\months so see much traction for what you put in. PPC such as adwords is obviously much faster.

What sort of business are you in?

Metal Recycling / Skip Hire. I think it's more a case of wanting to learn about it myself first, before I apply it to the business. I would also like to help a few friends/family out as they've asked me about this sort of stuff as it's starting to popup in magazines etc.

:)
