Separate card to do Physx worth it?

Just wanted some forum opinion? I am in the process of replacing a 9800 GTX SLI setup with a single 480 GTX. Question is would it be worth keeping one of the 9800’s to help with the Physx or is that just a waste of electricity? CPU is a quad core 3.0 Ghz so I don’t know if the 9800 is needed. Any advice as always gratefully received.

Thanks

Peter

Do you play many games that utilise physx? Mafia 2 and batman arkham asylum are two that i can think off.

I have just downloaded Mafia 2 but not played it yet. Am also thinking of furure titles to. Just unsure if it's worth keeping the 9800 but don't want to find 6 months down the road that it would have been worth hanging on to (if this makes sense).

Well, if your psu is upto the job you could keep one of the 9800's for physx, though id say that the 480 would do a decent enough job on its own with current titles.

This is the only time to consider a separate card for PhysX - when you've got an old card that you can't or won't sell.

I kept hold of my old 8800GT when I fitted my new HD6850, but it's not had a huge amount of use - glad I kept it though.

Time will tell what PhysX supported games will come out...

If you want to do something with the 9800's then build a El Cheapo rig and use them for folding.

Nvidia has hamstrung FizzX to help sell new high end cards, and even with a very high spec card the tech is little more than a marketing tool.

Hmmm sounds as if I would be better using them for something else (they are OK just not wonderful anymore) and if there is an sudden turn in Physx I guess I could just buy a cheap card if needed.
