Yea would need a crystal ball to know these things but any new GPU tech due around late 2011/early 2012 that will cause a stir?
Been out of pc build game a for a good few years now so was wondering. Would really like to start a build soon but i know i should wait for BF3 as that's the killer game to have this year.

Current rumours seem to suggest September for AMD but Nvidia will be very late this year, or early next year but with a new process anything could happen! If AMD can pull off a September launch then they should be off to a flying start with BF3 launching around the same time.

have they actually release any official requirements for the game yet? if not then how does everyone know its going to be a system killer?

Current gen hardware should be dropping in price by Christmas. If last year is anything to go by, OCUK will have some steller deals (5850 for £125 last December was incredible).

No requirements released as of yet but rumours say the demonstrators were running 580 GTX. The general conclusion is that it's going to be a PC breaker due to the GFX quality and huge scale.

If BF2 is anything to go by, when it released in 2005 it put my 9700pro through its paces! Also, looking at the videos released so far I would guess this is going to require some significant power to get full settings/ view distance.
These guys here have had a crack at guessing the system specs:

I will be upgrade my 4870X2 regardless! :D

i just think its a bit hard for people to build a pc specifically with BF3 in mind, when know one knows its specs.
i might be completley wrong here, but was crysis not a spec killer, but crysis 2 seemed to a lot more capable? maybe BF3 will have better coding to allow less power gfx cards to maintain good quality?

Possibly, thats what most people think but theres no harm in upgrading for killer fps/graphics quality :p

DX11 does seem to be quite a bit more efficient so I won't be surprised if the specs are fairly reasonable. I can imagine that good CPU's will be needed for all the physics though.

I'd imagine a quad would be minimum, with Forstbite 2.0 and DX11, I can imagine BF3 using all the cores it can get its hands on.

I can highly reccomend BC2. Gpu wise, im personally holding on to what i have at the minute. The BF3 beta is supposed to be out in september, but that could change. The full game itself is pencilled in for release on the 28th october, all being well. Quad will definitely be the best for this, ive tried BC2 on a few dual core machines and the drop in performance, compared to a quad is very noticeable.
