It looks like the rumours are true and Apple is indeed set to hold a special press event in San Francisco on Tuesday 12 September.

An invitation has been received by a number of US journalists. The text of the email reads “It’s Showtime.”

The event coincides with the first day of Apple Expo in Paris, but indications are that there will be no special Apple event held at that location. An Apple Event is rumoured to be taking place in London on that day however.

Reports suggest that Apple may launch new iPods as the company is likely to offer a new generation of iPods in the run up to Christmas. It is also possible that the company will take the wraps of an upgraded Mac mini and iMac – featuring Intel's new Core 2 Duo chips launched recently.

The company may also launch the long-rumoured iTunes Movie Store, likely to be US only at launch.

The US-focused nature of an iTunes movie launch may explain why Apple chose not to showcase the new product at Apple Expo.

Woohoo, this time next week we might have an iPhone :D ... well, at least some new apple equipment to check out. The last Apple press event like this saw the Intel Mac Mini & iPod Hi-Fi unveiled :)

Perhaps they are going to announce a Leopard release! Undermining the momentum gained by Vista with the current RCs. :eek: :D
 
As usual, I'm not going to be engaging in any speculation :)

Just hope they get the video of the Keynote up fast as they can :D

Yeah, kinda figured that aswell. My mobile is on it's last legs though so i'm hoping for an iPhone release :)
 
Well they just released the updated iMac and Mac Mini, which most certainly means they're not short of things to announce there... :D

In an ideal world:
iPhone (SIM free and not tied into any particular network)
"Proper" iPod Video
iTunes Movie Store (kinda obvious by now), with a whole rebranded, updated "iTunes" to do video playing better...iMedia maybe? Along with more than Disney shows - and good quality!

That's what I hope for, but say if they're no iPhone i'm not going to one of these people that proclaim the death of Apple like from the WWDC Keynote, it'll come when it comes :) :p

Yeah, I noticed the updated mini too - 1.66 core duo becomes the basic model, replacing the 1.5 core solo. For the same price too!

Gonna get me one next week methinks.


Why launch them before the expo though?

Maybe because they've got bigger items to promote? I'm very certain they've got a Joker in their hat they've yet pulled out.
 
that and it shuts up all the damn rumours about imac and mini upgrades!!! apple were probably peeved that people got it right. and that their real announcements are going to be relatively unexpected.

it's worth noting that a lot of people thought we were going to see a 23" iMac and we ended up with a 24"... which is nice :)
 
The Movie store is a given we know that.

Something that ties in with the Movie store is the true Video iPod.

As for the iPhone, I think this is a pipedream, and I don't think we will see this at the event, or for a while to come.

Looking forward to the True iPod Video, been after a PMP for a while!

  • iTunes Movie Store
  • Multi-coloured iPod Nano's with size increase
  • iPod Video size increases (but no touch screen)

Thats the rumours according to Think Secret ... I'm really hoping for the iPhone to be released though, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon by the sounds of it.

edit: theres some more rumours appearing that they'll be a "one more thing" to coincide with the movie store, so you never know :) ... i think something like a touch screen video iPod with built in wireless PDA capabilities would go down well.

I don't know much about this iPhone but I'm assuming Apple isn't becoming an MNVO and would make some sort of deal with one of the wireless companies if it were to release the iPhone. If this is the case then I'd have though there would at least be rumors of this deal floating around. I could see them doing a VoIP phone but not a cellphone. Or am I completely wrong on this one?

I'll be buying the new nano if they increase the capacity because my 4GB one is full and not to mention scratched to bits despite being in a nanotube all it's life. I had my aluminium iPod mini for about 4 months and when I sold it on eBay it looked brand new.
 
I'm inclined to agree on the iPhone. All the pictures I've seen have been iPhoney :p

New iPods etc. is much more likely.
 
All I want to see come out of this event are Merom MBP's & a new nano that doesn't scratch like a fork to a goth's wrists.

Whatever happens i'm buying a MBP & nano on the 30th of this month.
