serial console lead - same as a null modem lead?

As per title, is a null modem serial lead the same as a console serial lead (is that even a real thing?)

I need to reset a router and the only way is via a serial lead and i want to check the lead i have is correct.

It depends on the router - some use the standard serial connections (straight or null modem*), others will use a different pin layout, or even a completely non standard connector.

What is the router in question?


*The tx and rx connections are swapped (so it goes from the tx at one end to the rx at the other).

Problem solved, this morning I hooked up the old router and after a bit of messing about got my laptop setup with the router and attempted to login, some how my brain managed to delve deep and from nowhere I remembered the login info and managed to get logged in, no need for a factory reset now!
