Hi,
I've been looking round for some PIC programmers and I've found one that I use at University and was considering picking it up until I realised that it had to use a serial port and that Serial-To-USB convertors do *not* work with it.
In the end I decided that I've got a serial port so why *not* use it... But then read on the web and it seems it doesn't work with every serial port... Apparently some serial ports are not actually real serial ports but are emulated serial ports... I do not understand this myself - All I know is that this PIC programmer requires a "real" serial port to work.
Is there any way I can find out whether the serial port on a computer is real or emulated? I have not purchased the PIC programmer yet as the decision to do so will be based on whether I can actually use it or not!!
Cheers
