This is going to sound quite strange but this is the scenario:

Local development webserver is going into a cuboard in my spare room(office) along with router, switch etc

now what i'm thinking is it will get quite warm in there espcially during the summer months, so it got me thinking about putting one of those extractor fans in (like the ones in bathrooms/kitchens) now obviously I don't want this fan on all the time, only when I fire up the webserver (which i do via WOL)

does the serial port on m/bs have a 12v dc on it, and if so, does anyone know if this is on all the time or only once the machine has began booting up, as I could use that 12v line as a trigger for a 240v relay with 12v trigger and fire up the extractor fan this way. very lazy i know :D

Any Ideas?

Don't know the answer to your question. But another option would be a couple of quiet 120mm fans powered by the PSU. They would then only run when the server is switched on.
