Series of problems :(

Hey all, well it's one thing after another!

My first problem was that I tried to log into my main user account (the admin account, the only other account I had was a "Guest" account), and it wouldn't work, I could only login into the guest account, and after reading around the internet etc I couldn't find a fix. So I thought I'd change the root password for my whole system so I can log in with the "Other" option (not Guest or my usual account) and try to back up all my files etc and try a clean install. THEN I couldn't get past the off-white Apple Screen with the spinning "cog", so then I thought I'd try an archive and install by putting in my disk and holding the 'C' button, but now it just comes with a message saying I need to restart my Computer and writing in the background including the text:

"unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI""

So it's pretty frustrating that I can't do anything at all! I also tried safe mode before, but it didn't respond and just tried to load up like normal.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot!

Macbook then, well you can swap hard disks in that so best course of action is buy a new one, wack it in and get an external enclosure and get the data off that way.

Hope you have a time machine backup, and if you don't time to get one! :)

So it's pretty much certain that the hard drive is the problem? :)

And I've never thought of doing that, but surely if the hard drive is broken it won't work even as an external?

When my hard disk died it wouldn't boot off it but I could read it using an external bay to get some data off.

As for being certain, it sounds like what I had when I had a HD failure but the kernal panic didn't happen.

HDs are cheap so might as well try, im assuming its not in warranty anymore...

Yeah I suppose so, what enclosure would I need for a macbook hard drive? Also, any recommendations for a new HD?

Finally got my new Hard Drive today, but still got the same problem! Any ideas? :(

(Tried the original RAM, both sticks, and then the separate sticks on their own! No idea :(
